re: washing newborn clothes

I never used baby detergent I find it a waste of money. All clothes get washed in a free and clear and I do use softener which is also free and clear.

Always wash everything you put on your baby. I used to work at a popular clothing store- my primary job was folding and hanging clothes. My finger tips were raw and cracking after the 1st week from all the chemicals. You ever notice that new clothing smell? Yep- chemicals. I've washed everything that is washable no matter new or used. :-)

this may totally stupid but there was a study my sister heard today about shopping carts, the handle that kids hold on to while sitting in the cart and they found fecal matter on at least 60% of them as well as ecoli and salmonella. So even though i have always washed my kids clothes before they wear them, now i have even more reason too because most likely the people pushing those carts are also touching those clothes and toys.

definately wash. You have no idea who handled the clothes, what floor they were dropped on, etc. Even in manufacturing fabric can be sitting in a dirty warehouse, etc. They are made so often in foreign countries and have long journeys before they arrive in your store. Also, I have heard often things are packed in stuff that deters bug and rats etc for shipping.

I don't think NOT washing them is an option, at least for me.
