Maternity leave

posted 8th Oct
i am 35 weeks pregnant, and me and my husband both agreed that I would wait until I was 38 weeks pregnant to go on maternity leave. but now I am miserable.. i can't sleep at night and my feet kill me after only a 4 hour shift to the point im limping.. i know this is all normal pregnancy stuff, but would it be selfish of me to go on maternity leave sooner ? like 37 weeks... How far along were you when you left for maternity leave?

Are you going to be taking time away from your time after you have the baby? How much leave do you have?

I always worked right up until the day before I had my kids, but I have an easy office job. I wanted to use my time off for after.

No. i have a different job set up for me 6 weeks after i have the baby. So when I leave doesn't really matter for work purposes.. I just meant I'd feel selfish putting it all on him for the bills right now, while i stayed home, plus I know working will make the time go by faster instead of dragging on until he's due, but I'm just miserable.

i left at 39 weeks, went into labor 39+1day. Honestly though, it depends on if you can afford it. If you can, i say go for it. But if you are going to have to rush back, then i wouldn't. how many weeks do you get?

How much leave do you have? Do you have any sick days they will let you use? A manager at my place has 12 weeks of sick days built up that she is going to use then she will get 12 weeks of FMLA leave after that.

My husband makes good money. I just work a part time job, and am on my feet the whole time. I don't get any paid time off, just maternity leave, but like i said after the baby, i dont plan on going back to my current job anyways. I just dont know.. Id hate to put it all on him while im at home. but itll be like that for 6 weeks after the babys born anyway, idk

I worked until 39 weeks and that was only because my job had to schedule around me being gone so it couldn't be too sudden if possible to avoid. I will work until 39 weeks this time too and don't plan on coming back to this job this time. I will get a new one after my 6-8 weeks. But I would work as long as I possibly could cuz you will be glad for that extra cash flow later. Just remember though, to listen to your body. If it's telling you to slow down or stop, do it. Your baby's health is the most important part to consider first. If you think you can pull thru, then do it. Every person and pregnancy is different =)

Take Maternity leave anytime!!!! You have to be miserable standing up and not being able to sleep   Im going though the same thing and Im a housewife! It kills me just cooking lol I couldn't imagine working a part time job where you have to stand for 4 hours. Between the pain in my pelvic bone and the feet in my ribs I can barely walk without my legs giving out atm. Dont let anyone talk down to ya ;) Every pregnancy is different!

does your job know you aren't going back after you have your baby? if you arent returning, then how are you taking a LOA? either way, dont over do it if you are on your feet all day, but at the same time, if your work has been counting on you to stay until a certain time, try to follow through with that or at least keep them in the loop about what your plans are so they aren't left hanging.

If you can afford it maybe you can talk to your doctor and hubby about early disability? It won't take away from your maternity leave but it will help you get that extra rest you need.
