re: Maternity leave

Quoting Tiffany Gillette:" i am 35 weeks pregnant, and me and my husband both agreed that I would wait until I was 38 weeks pregnant ... [snip!] ... be selfish of me to go on maternity leave sooner ? like 37 weeks... How far along were you when you left for maternity leave?"

Originally I was going to work until either I went into labor on my own or the doctor decided to induce if I went past my due date. But now i'm 33 weeks and my fluid is very low so i've been reduced from 12 hour shifts to only 8 hours a day and if my fluid continues to drop I may be induced or put on bed rest. So I might be heading for maternity leave very soon. I was trying to save all my time so that I would be paid the whole time I was out but not so sure that is going to happen now. That's something you'll have to decide based on if you will be paid for so much time taken off or how long you want to be out. I don't blame you for wanting to go early for being miserable, I am too

I'm 38 weeks, I plan to work until my due date. But also considering working past that if the baby doesn't seem to be coming yet. So I might work until 41 weeks. I know your pain hun, I am so completely sore by the time I get home. I'm on my feet my whole shift which ranges from 5 to 8 hours, and sometimes I can't get back up after I plop my big o prego butt on the couch. You will get through it!! It's good for you to keep moving, and it'll pass soon. Just keep going!!

thank you everyone! i am trying to pull through. These last few weeks have really been killing me, and the sad part is i havent even gotten that many hours.. It's just the constantly standing, with swollen feet & not sleeping at night, and not being able to breathe, ugh! i know its not forever, and i feel better knowing im not completely alone in this lol. but i cant wait for this month to be over! i just want him out more than anything, and to feel human again. My husband wants me to keep going as long as possible for the extra money, it just frustrates me, because he doesn't have a clue of what i'm going through. i know i will survive though. thanks !

That's why women have babies, because men can't handle it
lol We are amazing!! And you're doing the most magnificent thing in the world right now, stay positive! We'll get through this month, and when you're done make sure you remind him every time he complains about pain or whatever what you did!

If your in pain and not sleeping well, I'd try to go as soon as you can... Or maybe you can get a fmla till you take your maternity? I used an fmla while I was pregnant with my daughter and was able to call in whenever I did t feel well and I couldn't lose my job cause of it. I stayed working till 39 weeks, I was working 3 12 hour shifts a week so I had a bit in between to recover from standing all day. Only problem I had from working was swelling in my calfs that made working so uncomfortable but I wanted to wait as long as I could so I could stay with the baby longer afterwards.

Where I work they make you take your maternity leave a week before your due date, if I could I'd work until I go into labor.

i feel your pain, im awake most of the night and am on my feet all day at work too. im finishing at 34 weeks but my husband wanted me to finish at 32 which i thought was alittle too early, if your feeling that way maybe its time to finish alittle earlier than you decided.
im ready for finishing now because my job is heavy but my work colleagues are great and help alot. so will stick it out
