Agreed to disagree. I'll do what works for me. Obviously I am doing a-ok bc my 5 and 6 yr old are very well behaved to where a spanking is rarely used. Sometimes all I have to do is sound very serious and they are quick to get back in line, however if the behavior/act continues... I will spank and almost never have that certain problem again.

I didn't say anything about how your children behave.   I said it's hitting. It is. We don't have to agree because that's what it is, you don't just get to change the definition because you have a hangup over the word "hit".

What act/behaviours warrant "spanking"?

There are several parenting books you can read about alternatives to spanking.

I was never spanked.. thank goodness... and I don't spank as I've said before....


But, I remember my nephew (who is my age) was spanked by his dad.... I'll never forget the time I went outside with him to help him pick out the switch... I think that was more of a punishment than actually getting hit. We stood out there in front of that tree for like 10 minutes trying to find one.  

I got a bad view of spanking since then.


SO wasn't spanked, he was beaten by his dad. His dad beat the boys with chains mostly.

Spanking is hitting, striking, swatting. Either way you are using force. Glorifying the word doesn't make it better, really.
It's one thing if you stand by your opinion of spanking, but no need to alter the meaning if you are secure in your beliefs.
