Mother tattoos 11 year old

A North Carolina mother was arrested after she gave her 11-year-old daughter a small heart-shaped tattoo near her shoulder, authorities said.
Odessa Clay, 30, of Greensboro, N.C., faces one count of tattooing a person under age 18.
It is illegal to tattoo a minor in North Carolina, regardless of parental consent.
The Havelock Police Department charged Clay, who has a few tattoos of her own, with the offense in late September.
In her defense, Clay said she did not know tattooing a minor, especially her own daughter, was illegal.
“She asked me to do it,” Clay told ABC News affiliate WCTI-TV, adding that she only drew a heart outline and did not fill in the shape.
Clay said she believes an ex in-law turned her in after she filed a report against her 11-year-old daughter’s paternal grandfather.

Do you think this is ok? a lot of people think that her being arrested is not needed, WDYT?
D&D

Me personally, I think it should be child abuse.

I love tattoos but this should be illegal, an 11 year old is not mature enough to decide to get something permanent on her body.

Maybe if the kid didn't ask for it.

Do I think it's stupid? Yes.
But, it was her child, who asked for the tattoo, so no, I don't think she should be arrested.
But, it is against the law, so that's that.

She shouldn't get jail time... as some one else said in the other thread, there are actual abused children who are suffering at the hands of abusive parents that need to be helped, not this kid.

Agree, this shouldn't be jail worthy.

I cant understand why people don't think she should go to jail...she broke the law, and put something Permanent on her child's body, who was not mature enough to make the decision.

And there are many forms of abuse.

This is not abuse.

Why waste the prison spot on her and give a DUI person a fine or a slap on the wrist? Give me a break. This isn't a toddler we are talking about.

How is it abuse when the kid ASKED for it.
A lot of 18 year olds are too immature for tattoos and get them too.
Parents can pierce their kids as young as 6 months old. That's permanent, the holes will never disappear with no scar.

the fact is, it was her kid, the kid asked for it. She didn't hold her down and tattoo her against her will. Therefore, not abuse. Just breaking tattooing laws.

I don't think she should spend time in jail. Based on her record and what not, I think she should get fined for breaking the law. I don't agree with what she did, and just because "she asked for it" doesn't mean she had to do it, she is suppose to be the adult.

really, digging a needle into your child's arm, EVEN IF SHE WANTS IT, is not abuse? she could have gotten an infection.

I asked for my foster mom to punch me in the face when she raised it at me, if she had hit me would that have been abuse? or no because I told her to?

Our prison system is overcrowded and overburdened and people think this deserves jail time?   It was stupid, it should be illegal, but have her pay some fines and make her serve community service or something. \
There are very real cases of child abuse and those parents don't get smurf for it. Just recently some religious quacks got off and their child smurfing died because they thought prayer would somehow help his appendix.
Jail time for this is stupid smurf.

Should probably arrest every parent that pierce's their child's ears. You know, sticking a needle THROUGH their skin and posing risk for infection.
