they're different.
that is INK on her body for ever. I have 15 tattoos and both ears are pierced all the way down, not to mention I have a smurf ton of other body piercings.

<blockquote><b>Quoting Lil princess and Bambino:</b>" yea, because that is not PERMANENT."</blockquote>
The marks and any damage you get from them messing up are. Trust me I know.

^^^Trust me I know too, I did my belly button myself on the sides, and they're both all smurfed up, and that was YEARS ago. It is different either way.
The biggest thing, is ITS LEGAL to get your child's ears pierced.

The fact that people get "a slap on the wrist" for drunk driving and running red lights doesn't make me anymore inclined to do so. The cost of incarcerating someone, even for a short period, is high. It isn't necessary here.

You think that because I think she deserves to be punished, that I do not think about other things like that? that go unpunished? why would you bring that up? obviously I am against every form of abuse, and people who drive drunk and kill people..makes no sense to even bring that up..I am not going to ignore every issue because some people sadly don't get punished.

No one said she shouldn't be punished just that putting her in jail is extreme and the space would be better used on more serious offenders.

The fact that something is legal or illegal doesn't mean it's any more right or wrong. Same sex marriage is illegal and the fact that is makes the law smurfing stupid, not same sex marriage wrong.

You're the one who made a big deal out of she could have gotten an infection. There are tons of ways kids can get infections was the point. Just because they get one doesn't mean it's child abuse. And I still fail to see how piercing an infants ears who usually needs to be forcefully held down is less abuse than a child who asks for a tattoo. And no at 11 I don't think the mom should have done it but to face jail time for it is smurfing ridiculous

when it comes to tattooing a child, yes it does..
gay marriage and tattooing a child, are two different things..you keep comparing this to other smurf that is irrelevant.

Hm, well I have a 2 year old, her ears are not pierced, and that is for a reason.

Technically she can get it removed if she every really wanted to. The point people are making is parents pierce their infants ears, something permanent that puts them at risk for infection all the time and no one cares. At least this child had a say in what was happening. Also no one in here has said to just ignore it, everyone said she should be fined and most said there should be some other punishment. Wasting resources to put her in jail and putting her child through that is stupid over something like this.

You just said that piercing a child's ears is okay because it's legal. The fact that it's legal to pierce a child's ears make it no less permanent than a tattoo. My reference shows that legality doesn't mean something is right or wrong on it's own. Do you understand?
