Crib Bumpers - Safe or Not?
posted 8th Oct
We just got Logan's crib, with bedding and bumpers.
Do you use bumpers on yours?
SO heard they were a suffocation hazard.

No i do not.

Yup we do

I did, until she started rolling/moving a lot.

I use them, but I push them down so that only an inch or two is above the mattress.

We did until my Son went into a Toddler bed at almost 3 years old.

I use them, only until they start using them to climb out of the crib with. But my babies also don't move from the pack n play in my room to the crib in their room until sometime after they're 9 months old.

I didn't use them. I have heard they can increase the odds of SIDS because they limit the air flow, but I haven't looked into any studies.
And then, when the baby is bigger, they can use the bumpers to help climb out of the crib.
It didn't seem worth it to me (to pay for something that wasn't good for them). I did think about breathable bumper briefly, my son got his leg caught in the bars a couple of times, but that didn't last long.

I got the breathable kind. Without them I was waking up with lo screaming bloody murder and his arm or leg stuck in the slats!

i think its ok at first, but when they start moving and rolling around its more dangerous.
i never used bumpers. my daughter gets her foot stuck in the holes on the side of the crib, but id rather her get stuck and have me get her unstuck than having her suffocate during her nap times.

I use mine. She doesn't move in her sleep and sleeps in the middle of the crib. And when she's awake, she just lies there and looks at the flowers and butterflies and reaches over and runs her hand over the fabric. I used bumpers with DS 6 years ago in both the cradle and the crib and same with DD now.

I use them, but if you are really worried about it they have Breathable Bumpers, where they are mostly mesh. The ones I have seen seem kinda useless though.

I used them. If your baby cant move it cant get to the edge of the crib. If your baby can roll, he/she can roll away from the edge if needed.

Quoting Ole' No Name:" I use them, but I push them down so that only an inch or two is above the mattress."
that's a good idea.
