re: Crib Bumpers - Safe or Not?

posted 8th Oct
I push mine down to cover where the mattress shows. But I shelled out 80$ for the bumpers to match the 150 crib set

Which is ridiculous....but Dom is me and Dh's first baby together and that's the one he had his heart set on....lol

Honestly...I used bumpers on DD's crib all the way until she graduated to a toddler bed....She moved her head if she was up against the bumper...I mean thats what anything does when it cant breathe...I feel horrible for the babies that have died due to bumpers, however I have a hard time understanding how it happened..Makes me wonder if there's not more to those stories....=/

We used them when my daughter was brand new. After she was able to move around her crib a bit we got the breathable bumpers. I walked in on her trying to soffocate herself one too many times and it scared the hell out of me. I LOVE the breathable ones. She's able to see through them, and they're completely mesh so she can't soffocate.

We got ours from Babies R Us, but here's a link so you can see what i'm talking about: http://www.amazon.com/BreathableBaby-Breathable-Mesh-Liner-White/dp/B0013FGWD0

Agreed. But me, if anything ever happened to Logan because of it, I would never forgive myself ... especially being that SO was the one to wisen me up to this.

Don't get me wrong ... Lo sleeps with a blanket and a blankie, and he's fine. But this might be different, since he tends to bunch himself into corners in the morning. I guess I'll wait until he's older to transfer it to the inside.

Paranoid Mom makes an appearance again

How's the little one doing?

Thanks! I'll look into this.

Logan's Pack 'N Play has a mesh siding, and he tends to love scratching it and breaking his nails if they get long enough

Is the mesh on the hard side or soft?

I guess i'd compare it to that in a pack and play, but there's stuff in between the mesh too. Mesh, smaller-holed-mesh, mesh. It's like 3 layers.

The swing was crafted by God. I'm convinced of it.

Crib bumpers are safe if you the new ventilated/breathable ones. The problem with the traditional bumper is that there is absolutely no AIRFLOW through the crib. This creates an unsafe sleeping environment for your child. There is a great YouTube video on the oliverbco.com website demonstrating this problem. Check it out, it changed my mind on using the traditional bumpers. I actually purchased one of the Oliver B ventilated sets & I love them.

I leave one side without a crib bumper, the side that my bed is on, so I can see him at all times. I can't even put him in the crib anymore. He sleeps all crazy now. Once I woke up cause he was crying, his head was on the crib. I was like omg.. and I ran to pick him up. He had the crib print on his forehead, like the crib line. and the other side that has the crib bumper, his face was like 2cm away from touching it. I just took him out of the crib. He sleeps on the baby napping thing now.
