Aye

After nearly a month I FINALLY got my daughter to bed before 2am. She went to bed without the 3 hour battle and she slept soundly from 10-midnight... and now it is 2am and she has been up playing and screaming in her crib. I tried to get her to back to sleep but she thinks it is a game. At least she has been content in there... but I, emotionally, physically, and mentally don't know how much longer I can put up with this..... I had a break down today and I'm sick of feeling defeated... and over something that should be SO easy! I'm exhausted form life. I just want SOME sense of security and routine... blleeehhhh

I did a quick google search and while there are some conflicting studies about giving it to children (no ages mentioned) they all did say ask your doctor if for no other reason than dosage instructions.

Thanks I get especially worried about melatonin because they think SIDS is linked to seretonin... all the levels effect sleep... I lost my son to SIDS.

Im so sorry to hear that. Hopefully your pedi is more helpful than mine. When I said my 2 month old baby sleeps a combined total of 3 hours in a 24 period she just said "some babies are like that"

OH good lord... I can't tell you how many times I've heard that with a similar story... that's why I've put off even going... It WILL get better.. she was a PERFECT AMAZING sleeper and now this.... I'm just waiting to figure out what the deal is.

I was just watching something on TV about this. DO NOT give small children melatonin. It's harmful to them. It disrupts the body's batural ability to produce it, stunts growth, and is linked to brain tumors.

Yeah, I get nervous about taking it for myself... They were showing a lady giving it to her 7 and 9 year old on the news... that kind of bothered me as well. I know it is a MUCH better solution than sleep aids, but I just don't think it should be a nightly routine.

I didn't catch the whole story about it, but it said not to give the supplements of it and that you could stimulate the body to produce more naturally with light and dark regulation. I'm not sure how to do that or what exactly they meant by it though. I generally don't take anything for sleep even when I have bad insomnia.

Our bodies produce seretonin when being in the light.. and that "natural clock" that you always hear about is the meletonin that is produced once our bodies prepare for sleep (or the dark).
