Well, being bluntly honest .. I think your mom has issues and you need to find new friends. I'd rather have my husband leave to better our future then stay home, work at a minimum wage job and have us stuck at his parents home for a looong time. I don't see why your mother is butting in, if by what you say I'm assuming your in laws are helping you with the most things? I mean, yeah he left you but you're stating at HIS parents house, like I honestly don't see the issue.

I'd be pissed if he left for university and told me I had a week to move out and I never heard of him again, then yes I'd be pissed.

I would make it work. I am making it work. My boyfriend got a full ride basketball scholarship to a D1 school..it would have been the only way for him to go to school. If he's going to get a better education and in the long run it will end up benefitting you and your family. Good luck to you, it's very hard but if you trust him then it will all work out how it's supposed to
