What do you think?

When I found out DS has Downs Syndrome, I was told that I need to "treat everything like a medical emergency" ie. my daughter gets a cold and she can just stay home for a few days; my son gets a cold and I need to take him to the hospital. But since then, I've been refered to Children's hospital and he had a complete ultrasound of his heart, and ECG and everything shows that his heart is 100% healthy. Which is wonderful.
But my daughter is coming down with a cold and has a pretty bad fever, if DS catches her cold, should I take him to emergency or just keep him home since his heart is shown to be healthy? I guess i should have asked the doctor if she meant just until we find out if he has any heart conditions at all- but i was obviously a bit shell shocked from the confirmation he has down's. So i wasn't really saying much. He has a follow up on Tuesday but im just worried if i should go in sooner if he shows he's sick tonite or tomorrow.

What should i do?

To be on the safe side, I'd take him in if he's sick.

I would do as they say until your follow up appointment. So if he shows signs of being sick (heart condition or no) he should go into ER because his Dr told him to go into ER. You could also call the DR on call and find out what they have to say but they may just tell you to play it safe and bring him in because there could be other things they are worrying about besides his heart.

If he was my child and everything was shown to be fine with him I wouldnt rush him to the ER. Unless he runs a fever or has an issues with congestion or breathing treat him as you would your other child.

As far as I can tell he's very healthy and has no breathing issues. I haven't had him very long though lol. He's very new

I would take him in if he shows signs of being sick. I would call your doctor in the morning and ask.

Up your Vit C. Orange juice more vita C. Also since he is only a month I would take him in if he got a cold anyways because in older kids and adults RSV turns up as a cold not as RSV.

Just monitor him at home---going to the ER can expose him to things far worse than a cold. You could call and ask for a MDs opinion but I highly doubt any doc or ped would tell you to take your child to the ER for a cold he might or might not catch. Also if you are breastfeeding its even better your breastmilk boosts his immune system.

A sucky ass virus. Audrianna got it last year and we should have been admitted to the hospital. She was a healthy 18 month old too.

Yeah no kidding. I will ask their opinion for sure, but I really would prefer to avoid sitting in emergency with a bunch of sick people around them. DH is out of town too so I'd have to take both of them with me.

aw poor girl. Thank you for that info though!! I will definitely be keeping a super close eye. Hopefully he doesn't catch anything. Its unfortunate that someone probably sent their LO to preschool and thats how my daughter got sick.
