Tomorrow is the big day!

posted 7th Oct
Being induced for medical reasons tomorrow morning and I'm super freaked out but excited at the same time. I'm just wondering if anyone has some advice or anything for me?

I'm trying to go as med-free as possible. If my cervix is open enough, they will break my water before giving me any pitocin or things like that. Last time they checked it was 1 cm and I have been having contractions like crazy.

Also, they said I could have a light breakfast..I was wondering what to eat that will be light but still give me energy? I've gotten tons of rest thankfully, but I want a little boost in the morning./

Any other advice would be awesome!

Make sure you refuse pitocin. It'll put you at a higher risk for a cesarean.

What would they use in order to induce then...

I had a piece of bread with peanut butter before my induction. I was too nervous to eat anything else. I had my water broken then they started pitcoin. I went as long as I could but ended up with an epidural. After 12 hours of labor I pushed for half an hour and had my baby girl. I would say just take things as they come, keep an open mind and focus on your breathing. Also, walk as much as you can.

um.....induction= potocin....unless in my 5 years of child bearing I missed something.... my advice? if you want to go as med free as you can, then do it! I know many women (myself included) who have had to have poticin and never needed a c- section, or any other meds for that matter. To be honest the labor I had with it was my best one, yes it hurts, but i have done it naturaly...and that hurts too...it is just slower.lol.

I got induced with my daughter. Labor was a lot easier with my son. I had my son all natural and with my daughter after getting the pitocin and them breaking my water i went like 11 hours but the last 2-3 hours of labor i got an epidural because i kept tensing up and i wasnt progressing so i would of had to get a csection and im glad i got the epidural because when i was 10 cm i started getting an infection from them checking my cervix i guess and my heart rate and the babys heart rate started going really fast and i was getting a fever. They said if i wasnt 10 cm and ready to push i would of had to get a csection. But just relax as much as possible! Good luck and congrats.
ETA: I was told not to eat anything passed midnight the night beofre.

Umm...no it doesn't. Hospitals and doctors are smurfs and want what is most convenient for them. They use the balloons, Cervadil, etc.

They are going to break my water and see if that will get things going before they try to induce using pitocin through an IV. There are lots of different things they can use to induce, the pitocin is just the strongest thing I think. I'm willing to try some other things first before that.

Only thing I can think of besides pitocin would be cervadil (sp?) right?

I had to have pitocin to bring in contractions with my first, they weren't that bad. I went natural besides that. Then did it again with ds#2 (without pitocin). I felt like a champ after that, pitocin contractions are stronger.

Pitocin is one of the most widely used drugs with inductions...Regardless of what method might be used, sometimes inductions can lead to C-sections. Doesn't mean it will.

Pitocin is the safest option though........
The next is Cytotec and that's a drug that has HUGE risks and is also used for abortions.

OP, do not refuse Pitocin if breaking your water is unsuccessful.

Cervadil doesn't do smurf. They used it to make me dilate and I went to a 3 without feeling a single contraction and my contractions never regulated.
