Quoting bia.:"   I agree. I could never make my child call another "sir" or "ma'am" lol maybe it's because where ... [snip!] ... I'm from.... Meh, my daughter will call me "Jamie" from time to time, I dont see the problem, it's not an everyday thing."

When Sera figured out M and I's name, she went balls to the wall for about a month now she's back at it again.

Lol we were in the super market yesterday and this man who was around 70-75 said to SO "thank you sir" I was like...shouldn't SO be calling YOU sir?

Not just their parents, all adults. My neighbor's DD calls her dad by his first name because that's what she hears everyone else call him, KWIM?

If my kids don't know someone it's Miss or Mr and the first name. If it's a close friend, then they just use first name.

IMO not disrespectful. Its their name. As for calling me by my name ive had them practice it. They NEED to know what my name is if we ever get separated. But I have asked them to call me mom. Sometimes my son calls us mommy jeanne/daddy jordan and we are ok with that.

My kids do use sir/ma'am when they're trying to get the attention of someone they don't know...or in response to their dad and I.

hmm like strangers?

ah i didnt think like that...

we probably should start telling logan to adress people a certain way, he keeps calling older women "gamma"

idk i dont adress people though, aside from ones i know that have a title. i dont call people sir or ma'am, i say excuse me. i mean i bet i have before but i dont make it a point so i never thought of it with logan. my best friends mom is trying to get me to call her rita, i just cant bring myself to it, she is Mrs****. Idk i guess im weird about it.

I think it all depends but my kid sure won't be calling me by my first name. It is only mama or mommy. If I tell her to do something she will answer yes maam

I use sir and ma'am in response to questions 'yes sir' otherwise i say excuse me. My son is 2 and my daughter is SN so its not something that has come up yet.

Ugh! Wish I could revote lol I thought it said parents (im tired).
Parents...no. That should be mom or dad unless its instances of maybe a step parent of someone paternal-like that isn't biological that they don't feel comfortable coining the term mom or dad to.
As for adults. teachers, friend's parents (until you know to call them by their names) or elders at church or family friends then I would certainly expect my children to call by mr and mrs because I want them to show the people they respect them. But thats what would be expected of my children. As far as other kids, If they want to call me Lindsey and I go to their church or I know their mom...I would never correct them. That would probably make a child feel like they did something wrong.
It goes without saying kids could show a little more respect nowadays but as far as anyone but my own kids; I wouldnt sweat the little things. Kids throw smurf off overpasses and multistory buildings and kill people nowadays. As long as they don't impale me they can call me smurfface for all I care.
