Parents don't babysit their own kids D&D

Having a D&D with a male friend of mine. The conversation went like this....

Me (on phone): Can you drop Graham's (my SO) USB stick round tonight?
Him: I can't tonight I'm babysitting.
Me: Oh who's kids have you got there?
Him; erm, my son.
Me: If you're looking after your own son then that's not babysitting, that's called being a parent.
Him: Of course it's babysitting because usually his mother looks after him more than I do, even when we're both at home.
Me: but it really is still called being a parent.
Him: I will have to disagree with you on that one......

So, if it is your own child that you're looking after, is it babysitting?
Let the D&D begin.

If he wants to call it that, who cares.

My SO would never call it babysitting though.

lol no. I wouldn't call being with your own child babysitting. Seems odd to me but whatever.

BD and I aren't together, and he'll come over and "baby sit" when I want a night out

he doesn't call it baby sitting when he is supposed to have her on the weekends, but if I ask him for a few hours, it's baby sitting.

But if he's calling it babysitting he's kinda admitting he doesn't really take care of his kid ...

If it's your child you are just looking after them. When I go to night class SO watches the boys. Not babysits. Cos if he was babysitting I would have to pay.

My ex made me pay him to watch Spawn if I wanted to go out a night.  


You're friend isn't getting paid or anything, he just calls it babysitting instead of parenting. No harm no foul.
