am i a horrible person?
posted 7th Oct
I'm 34 weeks 5 days pregnant and was in the hospital for two days on a bunch of meds because I was hacking contractions. The meds weren't stopping them and I don't really have any one to care for my kids for an extended amount of time so I left last night against medical advice. I feel horrible leaving because I don't want anything to happen to my baby but I felt like I had no choice. Am I a horrible person for leaving?.

No, but keep in mind that your insurance may not cover any complications that occur after leaving AMA.

I'm praying that he stays put until I'm term. Trying to take it easy for now.

no.. but what will you do if you end up with a NICU baby? you'll be out of work on maternity leave, with a baby in teh hospital and children. You don't have friens, aquantances, ANYONE who would help?
did they run a fetal fibronectin to see if it's anything? were you making changes? how frequent were your contractions?
and.... what hte above poster said... some insurance carriers won't even cover the current hospitalization if you leave AMA... they'll claim if you left.. it was not an emergency, and an unnecessary stay that you'll have to pay for.

I hope he stays put, too.

No his job is our livelihood and he is obviously call 24/7. Every time he misses something it hurts us. Plus he had a bad month last month.

ok, read your past posts..
you had a positive fetal fibronectin, were having contractions they couldn't stop, and are dilated to a 3. not a horrible person, but extremely irresponsible for leaving. what is your plan for your children when you have your baby? You've known you are pregnant... do you have a plan for them?
this is your 3rd kid... you could have him/her at any time...

Yeah I wouldn't have left . Especially with the contractions and that test coming back positive.
But good luck to you!! Hope everything turns out fine .

I see this so often at work, and it's frustrating. I know it's hard.. but when people claim they can't do what it takes to make sure they birth a living child... it's shocking to me. You'll be in the hospital to give birth.. so what do you plan to do then? (I'm truly not saying this in a bitchy tone... very curious what people expect out of the situation)
I know if I had to choose, I'd have my husband/SO take off work while the baby is in danger... and work during labor and delivery if that was what we had to do. I'd reach out to neighbors, co-workers, anyone... to get the help I needed for my kids so I could take care of myself and new baby to make sure he/she is born healthy

My Dh's job requires me to stay at home full time with the kids. My mom was watching them but she lives kind of far away and dd is in school. I dont want a nicu baby which is why I went in in the first place. I have Medicaid so if they don't cover it I'll have to deal with that if I have to. I was 3cm when I went in and hadn't progressed when I left. The contractions are irregular now. I dint want to leave I honestly just didn't see how I could stay. They pretty much told me that until he was coming out I was going to be in there and that could have been hours days or weeks.

is he self employed? could your mom come stay at your place for awhile? Does she understand the risks of you having a baby that needs intubation if born now? a positive fetal fibronectin means you could deliver in the next 2 weeks. How frequent were your contractions? did they send you home on anything at least to help? (procardia?)

When you have a baby you are in the hospital for days not weeks. I can manage days not weeks. Just because your pregnant and having complications doesn't mean your stop having responsibilities. Kwim? I can't expect people to turn there lives upside down because I'm pregnant and I don't really have anyone who is able to do that anyways. People who do are lucky

No he works for a company and they pay for our rent as long as Dh is making money for them. My mom thinks the baby will be fine honestly. No she won't stay at my house because she hates my Dh. No they had me on that stuff plus mag at the hospital and it wasn't working. They pretty much were just waiting for me to go into full blown labor when I finally decided to leave. Their biggest argument was the time it was going to take to get to the hospital when I went into labor.
