I thought you have to ovulate to get pregnant...

What exactly are you asking?

Sperm can live up to 7, I've even heard 10 days in the right conditions. The optimal time frame though is around 3-5 days. So if you have sex within 48 hrs before you ovulate you very well could get pregnant.

You can shoot for sex as close to ovulation as possible but some ppl miss the very limited window of life the egg has by going that route.

I get what you're saying now. Yes you can get pregnant if you have sex the day you ovulate. I believe that is your most fertile day.
