starting baby food

My daughter is about to be 6 mo. & her Pedi said I should start some food soon.. We skipped rice cereal because all the research I've done basically says it's just a filler & not neccesarry.. So what food did you start first? I've heard to start veggis first & then fruit.. How often do you give the food & when? TIA!

I started with banana. I have heard the 'veggies first' thought, but my daughter is breastfed & breastmilk is naturally sweet, so why would it matter which I started with? We did baby led weaning, so no purees. After banana we did sweet potato, & from there we introduced one new food every 3 days. At first she only ate once a day (in the morning.) She started started solids @ 8 months. she was not interested before then. She prefers veggies over fruit  

Although I did.cereal I started with veggies DD does not like fruit. She ate scrambled eggs with cheese yogurt. Rice rusk cereal cookies yogurt melts and puffs.

Also check out the article on there called forbidden foods. Babies at 6 months and up can eat anything it gives you the guidelines change. Only food that is out is honey.

my son wouldnt eat the rice cereal at all but he loved fruits and veggies and try making your own sweet potatoes mashed potatoes bananas stuff like that is great to start with than slowly start introducing her to more

my boy is 5 and a half months. We decided to do just veg for 6 weeks, i blended loads of different veg's, put them in ice cube trays and just give him 1 of those every night. Been doing it for 3 weeks now he is only just starting to get it but were getting there, will try fruit soon but was told buy my health visitor and done some research myself that to leave off it for a bit as baby will prefer sweeter tastes and might refuse the veg so get him used to the veg first. this is working for us x
