Question for mothers who have ever had a sick one year olds!

I went to an urgent care facility because my on call doc told me to. I was apprehensive about it because I know they usually don't have peds doctors. It seems like any other adult doctors dont know what they are doing. I went there anyway for his recommendation. He didnt look at my son but said because of the yellow green drainage he was going to put him on antibiotic. I mean he checked his lungs because of my history and the fact he was wheezing but it's cold so when I was little cold helped my asthma and wheezing. He also told me to give him a decongestant and cough suppressant but to double check with pharmacist!!! I'm like ok this isn't good because he has no clue if that's right! Plus he had no dosing chart for stuff like that! I'm irritated because I know this isn't right! What do you all think?

His peds doc told me to go there because it wasn't an emergency if I couldn't wait til Monday! I have a $300 copay for non emergency visits such as this. He isn't wheezing at the moment so it's not an emergency! I just was asking for a recommendation as to the medication end of stuff. I am waiting for his doc to call me back but just thought I would ask in the meantime!

Uh first i would not give my child anything with out the dr looking at him and if he didnt run any test if u give him an antibiotic it may do more harm then good.

My pedi always says a big fat NO to cold/cough meds at that age.
He can have benadryl for snotty nose, my pedi said 1/2 tsp for my 1 year old. Tylenol or ibuprofen for comfort/fever. That's all I've ever given...and of course humidifier, vicks, stuff like that.

Thanks I spoke to his doc and she said why they don't give meds like that. She said the risk of parents self medicating their kids and them overdosing them and statistically in kids his age they don't work well. So benadryl and Tylenol with antibiotic will do! He has wpw so I need to be careful!

Oh and cool mist or outside she also said that she wasn't concerned he didn't look at his ears and throat cuz he's been sick since monday and started running a fever since Wednesday. He went to docs on Wednesday but they didn't give him anything then cuz his symptoms weren't there. I guess because he's still sick and now the green thick snot, he just put him on one!
