Sorry I can't link it but this website says it's about $100 through the state.

I don't know about $10, but that is still pretty cheap.

How interesting. Even more reason why there shouldn't be so many children in foster care when there are so many people out there who want to a child "so badly".

People want newborns or infants.... rarely do people want older kids.

people generally want healthy white newborns. Nobody wants the older kids. It's really sad

I didnt know that..i went from a foster home to family. But through the state I can see that. My older brother was in a "home" but never was adopted and got kicked out after high school and he was 18. Its sad people only babies. I was lucky at 11 to get adopted..

It's sad about your brother. It's good you got adopted, it must be so hard to just be expected to "grow up" at 18 and be kicked out.

I knew a kid in school who kept getting moved around in foster homes until he got adopted at 16. He was HIV positive. The guy who adopted him was a baptist preacher and adopted 5 kids that had some form of physical disability. I was only 13 so I don't know any details about the prices, but considering he adopted 5 kids, I cannot think it cost so much money for each one. KWIM?

Of course I would adopt. We are actually adopting from India next year. I have already sent my list of "preferences" and we are wanted a young girl between 3 and 5 years of age. I can't wait!

I agree. I don't know the inner workings of the state adoption system but I do know that there are about 115,000 kids that are adoptable, through the state (nationwide) and a huge majority of those kids are between the ages of 6-11.

I can see where adoption with older kids would be really tough, especially when you consider the amount of kids with difficulties (socially and/or physically) that there are.

I said this in another thread already, but it takes a strong, capable, willingness to tackle that.

Yeah, the boys my friend adopted are now older and well behaved, but he said he was ready to just give up and give them back several time for the first year. His mom helped him a lot but they had a lot of issues with the boys' behavior.

I've never heard of someone adopting an older kid and not having problems

Rough. Really rough.

I also had a friend a loooong time ago, who's parents adopted two sisters (ages 7 and 11, I believe) when we were sophomores.

It took years for them to settle in but I know one of the girls didn't fare very well.

God bless the people willing/able to take on that challenge. Seriously.

I'm too selfish to adopt an older child and I have no problem admitting it!

Yes, I want a little black girl. I'm not sure why I got all specific on it but if I adopted, that is what I would want.
