Right? Especially considering how many children there are out there waiting to be adopted. If it was easier SO and I would definitely do it. I would have two of my own and adopt at least one more (more if we would afford it).

My son's father is an American. My son was born out of the country (Germany) and is both a German and American citizen.

I think they're worried about placing kids into abusive homes.

How did he get dual citizenship?

Because he was born there. Its nothing you apply for. You become a German citizen by either birth, adoption or naturalization. He won't have it for life. He has to choose between German and American citizenship by the time he is 23.

I know some people here who tried and were completely denied and were told at the Rathaus the kid will never have a claim to German citizenship.

*shrugs* I don't know why. I received paperwork in the mail from the Rathaus explaining his dual citizenship. I had to get the patient liaison to translate it because, of course, it was in German. Instead of just the consular of birth, he has two separate birth certificates. A German one and the US consular of birth. I know a girl who only has the US consular of birth certificate, she never received a German one so I don't know. Maybe my kid got lucky.

Honestly, I would adopt a couple of them. I would like to have one more of my own and if affording to adopt wasn't an issue, I would adopt 3 more.. I wouldn't ask for a certain gender, age or race.. Just like with my children, I get what I get and am thankful for them.

I really want to adopt siblings. I hate the thought of siblings being split up because most people won't take both.

No babies.

In the USA I know you can adopt from the state for nearly nothing. A friend of mine (single male) adopted two little black boys 3 and 4 years old and it cost him a total of 10 dollars.

I want to adopt, in Guatemala, a newborn or infant. I'm selfish for wanting an infant, I know, but I'm okay with that. Adoption is very expensive here and there are plenty of infants and newborns waiting for adoption since non-Guatemalan families are no longer allowed to adopt here.

He said he adopted from a state school and it cost him a total of 10 dollars, basically. If you go through an agency it's very expensive.

I trust him, but i trust a lot of people.. so maybe he lied. I just know what I'm told! haha

ETA: I meant state home. Not state school!

Most likely not. If I were to some how change my mind about adoption age and race wouldn't matter to me, I'd also most likely adopt from the US.

I just FBed him and asked! lmao

He said he adopted from the State (not an agency) and that they have this thing about "hard to adopt" kids. One of the boys couldn't speak at all, both were African American and older than what most people want. And, both parents had drug problems.

If you adopt 'troublesome' kids that most people don't want, then you pay nearly nothing. It also depends on the State, he said.
