I'm going to do it

posted 7th Oct
I know this is most likely a HUGE JINKS but we have had nothing but issues at night with my son and his sleeping habits since being home from the hospital. It seems like every other night we have a “good” night’s sleep, and then the next night it’s just down right horrible.

But last night was just simply amazing and I hope I can have that again tonight. We took our son to my husband’s cousin’s wedding he slept through the whole ceremony, which I was worried he wouldn’t. Then he even slept through the whole reception except the last like hour we were there. We went to bed around 10pm he didn’t wake up until 1:30, usually he is on a 2 hour on the dot schedule. He ate his bottle, burped, let me change his diaper, and was instantly back a sleep (by about 1:50). I didn’t even have to hold him or soothe him back to sleep. He didn’t wake up again until 4am and the same thing happened and he was back asleep by 4:30. And then again we were up at 7 for his next bottle and just stayed up for the morning. He didn’t cry, fuss, or scream like I’m trying to kill him once last night. It was just amazing!!

How old is he? It is totally normal for an infant to wake up every two hours. There stomachs are tiny.

He's like a week old, right? It's going to take time for him to sleep in longer stints.

Sure they can. My DD woke up every four hours as a newb. 12, 4, 8, 12.

Now she sleeps from 8-7.

And OP, when you take them out somewhere all day it exhausts them. I wouldn't count on him sleeping that well every night. But it does get better soon enough.
The crazy in me misses the night time wake ups.

it's not that he wakes every 2 hours that is the trouble, bc i now am on that schedule also. He has his day's and nights mixed up. So at night he wakes up on his 2 hour mark. Eats and stays up for almost an hour and half and then goes back to bed. But during the day he will sleep and wake up every 3 hours or so to eat.

He has habits/schedules also. He eats at the same time everyday and night

Really? I feed on demand and it always is different times. There is a bit of consistency in how many hours a day he will sleep but it's never the same times.
I meant to add a bit more to my original response but got called away...
having the expectation that a baby will sleep thru the night consistently will always lead to disappointment. There will always be something to interrupt progress, like a growth spurt, an illness, teething, a long day, appointments ect.

OP, just take it one day at a time and try not to stress when your baby doesn't seem to stick to a schedule. All kids are different. My first slept 12 hours a night by age 1 and my second woke every 3 or 4 hours til he was 2. My third is only 8 weeks so he is still not on any sort of schedule. I guess "habits" was the wrong wording.

I feed on demand too.... she set her own schedule. She eats every four hours during the day now. And she ate every two hours on the dot as a newb then at night every four on the dot.
Some babies put themselves on a schedule. It's not unheard of.
