Quoting ☮Sugar Magnolia:" Sure they can. My DD woke up every four hours as a newb. 12, 4, 8, 12. Now she sleeps from 8-7. ... [snip!] ... him sleeping that well every night. But it does get better soon enough. The crazy in me misses the night time wake ups. "
Really? I feed on demand and it always is different times. There is a bit of consistency in how many hours a day he will sleep but it's never the same times.
I meant to add a bit more to my original response but got called away...
having the expectation that a baby will sleep thru the night consistently will always lead to disappointment. There will always be something to interrupt progress, like a growth spurt, an illness, teething, a long day, appointments ect.
OP, just take it one day at a time and try not to stress when your baby doesn't seem to stick to a schedule. All kids are different. My first slept 12 hours a night by age 1 and my second woke every 3 or 4 hours til he was 2. My third is only 8 weeks so he is still not on any sort of schedule. I guess "habits" was the wrong wording.
