My lo is 21 months and has a bedtime of 830. My dh is in the military though and he goes to bed super early and I usually do too, but pregnancy insomnia is killing me ATM. He has been going to bed at 830 since he was like 8 months. It just works for us. I like him being on a schedule just so we can still do stuff for awhile before we go to bed.

They used to go to bed at 4AM... Then it was 2 AM... Now I'm putting them down around 12:30, as I'm trying to get them on a more regular sleep schedule. They have been sleeping through the night (12 hours) since they were 3 weeks old. Their dad works a screwed up shift job where he wasn't home until 2 AM when they were born, so for him to see them, they had to stay up. Now he doesn't get off til 4 AM, at the earliest, and I can't keep them up that late. I would love to have sleep from 9PM to 9-11 AM. That's what I'm shooting for.

It might bite you in the ass when your LO starts school but I wouldn't really worry about it until closer to then. I mean if it fits your schedual. I put my 7 year old to bed at or around 9:30 and my 4 month old goes to bed around the same time and sleeps wonderfully through the night. Momma needs times for myself or when daddy is home we need time alone   I just hope my 4 month old continues to sleep through the night now and then it will be nice to have her on a schedual and easily put her to bed. One can always hope hehe

He's 4 months old, so I don't see the big deal having him up late with me...especially since I'm the one that has to get up with him in the night...which only happens once about 6 - 8 hours after we put him down, then he'll eat, and be back asleep for another 4ish hours. It might be different if SO's job wasn't so stupid...then we could all hang out as a family or something, and go to bed early. But I can't sleep when SO is on the night shift. I need to know he's safe with me before I go to sleep. So the company is nice to have   Thanks ladies!

Quoting Ms.Eagles:" Does your LO have a bedtime? If so, what is it? My SO thinks we should try and get our LO to sleep around ... [snip!] ... to bed, that's why! So I'm just wondering if I should listen to him, or continue not caring if my LO is up really late or not."

DS is 6 months old and has a bedtime of between 8 and 9. He set his own bedtime about 4 months ago, he usually gets cranky around 8 and is asleep by 8:30.

Once my kids started sleeping through the night they started going to bed at 7 every night. They even take 2 hour naps during the day until 5 years old. It works best for me that way and made getting dd ready for school so much easier because she didn't have to adjust to a new bedtime.
