How many SAHM are full or part-time students?

posted 6th Oct
So I'm sitting here with a book in my face wondering how many SAHM's do this. This is nuts. I am exhausted. It's almost midnight and I have my assignment due tomorrow. I do about 15-20 page papers a WEEK! I have been in graduate school since April 2011 and this by far my hardest, most time consuming class.
How do you do your studying and homework with your tots around? Do you send them to a sitter or do it when they nap/sleep? I send mine to a sitter about twice a week but I end up doing other things during those times (cleaning, appts/errands). My daughter is 2 this month and i can't seem to keep her busy while I study. If I'm at the table she wants up to play with my computer, and then I say no and she stands there and cries. If I write my paper in the living room then she wants to touch everything. How do you other mommies do it?!

I do my work after he goes to bed, or intermittently during the day.

I'm not a SAHM, but I'm in school part-time, working full-time. That doesn't give me too much time to get anything done. lol. Basically, I get most of my studying done at night after she goes to bed. When I have a test or an assignment due, DH will occupy her for a few hours. Occasionally, my parents or in-laws will watch her while I study. If all else fails, I will sit on the floor with my book and laptop while she plays or watches TV.

Mine is ALL online!! So not only do I have the homework to do, I have to figure out what i'm doing... so I don't get the one on one time with the class. Kinda sucks, but my program is mostly an online program until I get into my student teaching.

I am SAHM right now, but every year I do taxes from Jan-April. Then in oct-dec I have to study all new tax laws and do meetings all with my child near me. It is a super challenge especially when the webinars come on and I have to take an exam at the end. I have tried setting up an area of play and movie time, but most of the time I stay up way late and try to get my lessons done. It just seems I am always exhausted doing it this way but it's about the only way I have found I can get through the lessons and pass them. Mine forgoes nap time so bedtime is the only time I can get it done.

I just started going back to school this semester (I already have my degree but I'm changing careers). So far I do most of my work while my son (4) is asleep. If I have a test, he goes to his grandparents' house. DH works offshore so he is gone 2 weeks at a time. If DH is home, he occupies DS so that I can get my work done. I'm only taking 9 hours, so my workload isn't that bad. I just have to read a lot of crap (I'm taking 2 lit courses).

You must also kick some serious ass! How on earth did you juggle work and nursing school?     You get major, major kudos! It's hard enough juggling work/school, and I'm just doing nursing school prereqs.

I'm full-time school. He goes to daycare while I'm in school and depending on how much work I have I either leave him in daycare an extra hour or do it while he sleeps.
I have no idea how single mom's do this with working and everything. I feel way lucky.

I went to school during the week, worked on the weekends and studied at night. Coffee was my best friend!

I'm not a SAHM, but I work full-time and I go to school full-time.

I do my work when he is sleeping. Sometimes I'll just stay up all night to get it all finished, work all day and then just finally pass out. It's probably not the best solution, but it's the best solution I have for the moment.

That is crazy!!! This gives me hope! I won't be working during nursing school, but the program is accelerated and crammed into a 12 months. Not gonna lie, I'm terrified!

Yikes! That will be a lot! I did my pre-reqs before I applied to the program, so I could focus on my nursing courses. I completed them in 2 years, and it was rough. I can't imagine doing it all in a year! Good luck!

Yeah ik - i don't know how single moms do it period!! Kudos to all the single moms out there! Although I'm not a single mom, my DH is handicapped and can't help me a lot. He's home with us during the day, but he can't really watch her very long for me to get anything done.
