re: Trendiegh names

posted 6th Oct
Some people say my kiddos name is trendy and misspelled, but I spelled it that way to preserve the actual spelling of the flower, which is what she is named after. So her name is "Lilyin" instead of Lillian... and I cant stand it when people spell it Lilly. I named her for the flower, so it needs to be Lily, lol.

But oh well, I've seen worse. One of Lils friends is named Caoimhe (pronounced Kay-oh-me), and that is one of the oddest names I've ever seen. One of the weirdest names I've seen at her school is Ohm'katom (I think thats how her name is spelled) but I think it's an Arabic name. I went to school with a girl named Bich, now THAT was a doozy to figure out when doing roll (I was head of the classroom) and found out it was like the pen... Bic.

The problem is people think that the spellings are unique, but there's a reason they're called trendy names..... there are a lot of kids with them.
It's not a unique spelling.

but it isn't just about pleasing yourself, either
you're naming an actual human being, who will grow up, and apply to colleges, for jobs, will want to date, will have to introduce himself to people and spell the name and hope to make a good impression

like michael jackson who named his poor kid "blanket"...
it probably pleased michael jackson just fine, but it totally SUCKS to have to go through life that way

There are five mamas on here that I can think of off the top of my head who spell their daughter's name Bailee.

Bailee is not a grown up name.

I can't even imagine a professional woman named Bailee.

Bailee is trendy/popular, I have a few friends who have considered the name for their soon-to-be daughters. I wouldn't name my daughter Bailee or any other variation, but that's just because it reminds me of Hailey or whatever the spelling is and I don't like it. I still don't think the name is horrible.

My kid's name is trendy, I guess, so perhaps I'm not the best person to ask. lol

Most trendy names I do not like, the spelling usually is horrible. Granted I understand most parents wanting to use something that isnt popular, well there are hundreds, if not thousands of names that arent in the top 500 or top 1000 that are perfectly good choices. I would go with one of those anyday before taking a normal name such as Allison and spelling it Allyson or Allieson to be unique. Its ugly and doesnt seem proper in my opinion, but thankfully its not my kid.

My friend's sister just named her new baby "Jailee."

Giving your child a trendy name is like giving them a mullet that they have to wear for the rest of their life. It's going to look really, really stupid in a few short years.

I don't like them because they do not age well, they reflect a poor educational background on the parents and most of them are just plain ugly, IMO.

"Jail" just sticks out to me.

I was at Walmart late last night grocery shopping when the guy behind me asked if he could butt in front since it was 10 minutes before wine cut off. He noticed that I had diapers and asked how old my kid is and his name. He then went on to tell me that he has a niece named Audi and another niece on the way who will be named Axl(e). That's the kind of "trendy" my kid's name is, his name is Cash. It's spelled correctly, but falls into that weird category where people ask why couldn't I just give him a "normal name" lol. His middle name is "normal" at least, so if he ends up hating Cash that much then I won't be offended if he goes by that.

I hate trendy, speaking from personal experience. Most trendiegh names are misspelled and don't make much sense phonetically. The spelling Bailee isn't too bad, you'll only have to put up with having to spell it out all the time. Baleigh is atrocious, you'll have to deal with correcting the pronunciation and spelling it out. Its a pain.

Caoimhe is a LEGIT Irish name pronounced Kee-va.

To the OP, I hate trendeigh names to the core and find them to be juvenile. I want names for my children that will not only stand out, but are also LEGIT, correctly spelled and flexible in all walks of life. I prefer names from Greek mythology and Shakespeare.

I love Shakespeare names. But I am an English geek. If I had twins I'd name them Romeo and Juliet, lol. But Juliet is a possible name for a future child, but can not be shortened to Julie.

As for the pronunciation of Lily's friends name, they do NOT pronounce it that way. I had never seen it before and kids had SUCH a hard time spelling their friends name for ages.
