What antidepressant do you take?

posted 6th Oct
My PPD is still around and I'm doing something about yet again...

My appt is on Thursday to try a new med. I'm excited, yet nervous. Excited to possibly have the chance to be content for the first time in years, but nervous because of the side effects that come with starting a new antidepressant.

I've taken Celexa (made me sleep for 15 hours per day) and Zoloft (maxed out at 200 mg and didn't help me). I'm on Wellbutrin and it's pretty good especially when paired with an SSRI (I think that's what they're called)/

I know all meds work differently for different people, but what have you had the most success with?

She was talking about Prozac and Paxil at our last appointment. How's the Prozac going for you?

I was on antidepressants in high school, I took Celexa first and I hated it so I took Zoloft which seemed to work ok. I was only on it a few years and then I actually got away from my family so I wasn't so depressed haha.

It works good. I think I need to up it again though. I have been on it for a few years now. I have crazy thoughts once in a while, that is why I think I need it upped.

Whats the highest dose you can take?

When I started taking such a high dose of Zoloft, I knew I needed something else. It was pretty ridiculous that I wasn't feeling any better.

I am on Prozac 20mg and it works wonders for me. I used to be on 150mg welbutrin and I dont remember the mg for the Effexor and I was on those at the same time and they havent done nearly the job that the lil old 20mg prozac pill does. I am not on it currently seeing as I am waiting for my lil boys to arrive but once they are here I am going to be back on it and doing my best to cope with being a mom of twins and a 4 yr old. I wish you the best of Luck. Prozac doesnt make me tired or any weird side effects that I noticed except when I dont take it for a few days (as in run out and forget to refill or just plain old forget to take it) I notice a major headache almost migraine quality and becoming super tired but when I take it the next day and then get it back into my system I feel great again. I sleep to much when not on it because of my depression. SO Good Luck and hope you find something that works for you!!!

Thank you! I'm glad it's working for you. It seems like it's kinda rare for people to actually talk about meds actually helping them instead of screwing them up worse.

Haha  . Depression runs in my family so I think it's just in my genes but I am usually able to deal with it through natural ways but being around my family makes my depression and anxiety go out of control. That is why I've cut them out of my life for the most part. Do you think there are outside issues that are contributing to your depression? Medicine won't cure everything.

Yeah, I know of the reason... but I can't change it. It's embarrassing, but meh. I just want to medicate until I can get to a point where I'm content.

I'm not sure honestly. My dr prescribed me 2-3 20mg capsules a day, I take 2 currently. I stopped taking it when I got pregnant, but he said the chemicals in my body making me depressed would be worse on the baby than taking it through the pregnancy. The chemicals would be passed through the placenta and would affect the baby. I NEED them, so I chose to take them and she is perfectly healthy.

I took my Prozac when I was pregnant with DS 4 yrs ago they just cut me down to 10 mg instead of my normal 20mg. And then after he was born upped me again roughly 8 weeks later. With the twins I stopped taking them because it was their dads wish so I consented and then he left me and I just never got back on them. And I only have roughyl 6 weeks to go before they arrive and I seem to be doing alright coping without them do to the hormones my body is making compared to my body wasnt used to the extra so I went and got angry at the BD (but in the end he deserved it with the BS he has put me through). So once the twins get here I am getting back on my Prozac because I know Iwill have a more difficult time dealing with PPD than I did with DS because I have 2 newborns and a 4 yr old to look after. Thank God we are staying at my moms for 3 weeks to help with recovery.

I have no problems talking about how my meds help me. I now know what my body needs to help control that extra influx of hormones I could be getting and I am going to use it. The WIC office wants me to try a different med that is ok to breastfeed on and I was like I know what works I am not trial and erroring it while BF to just have them get goofed up in the long run and not even be garunteed to find anything to help like I know my Prozac does. When I was on my Welbutrin and Effexor I still was depressed all the time and nothing no matter how good it was would look good to me everything was negative. Life was not good then. Eventually the Dr I had (until he retired in April) asked me several years ago (maybe 6) how I was doing on my anit-depressants and I said I still feel depressed so he prescribed me 20 mg of Prozac and I have never looked back or at finding a different one. I have been on the same dose for years and have never needed it changed except when I was pregnant with DS 4 yrs ago. I quit taking it with my twins and I seem to be doing alright but I know once they arrive I need to get back on it ASAP because I am going to have a rough time dealing with 2 newborns and a 4 yr old. So I wish you best of luck finding somehting that works and when you find it stick with it.
