opinions?

posted 6th Oct
before i ask this question i just want to say i know people on babygaga arnt doctors iim just looking for opinions.

so my 10 month old was fiine yesterday. she layed down for a nap and after an hour i woke her up. before her nap she was just fine but after she still seemed tired and was pretty warm. i took her temp and it was 103.7 it was late so i called the er to talk to an on call doc and ask his opinion. he said if it got any higher or stayed that high for 5-6 hours i had to take her in. he also said to give her tylenol and a bath. the tylenol we had was expired so i didnt give it to her but i did give her a bath which did help bring it down to 100.8.....for about an hr than it was back up to 102. after a few hours of it being that high we took her to the er (she also threw up a few times and was very sleepy and not herself (lethargic i think is the term)

they checked for a uti and listened to her lungs and checked her ears and throat. all was fine. they said it was probably just a viral infection (something like the common cold) she doesent have a runny nose unless shes crying, and other than that shes not stuffed up or anything. shes eating and drinking just fine. her apetite is perfect as usual. they gave her tylenol & ibuprofen at the er and her temp was 100.6 when we left. after 4 hours we were told to giver her more tylenol and then alternate between tyl & ibu every 6 hours. after the first does her temp was 98.6 perfect!...then this morning it was back up to 101. i gave her the ibu and cheked her temp after an hr it was 102...then an hr later back to 98.9. an hr before her next dose she was up to 103 but she has been ating normal and happy all day

anyways my question is what is your opinion on what is wrong with her? has your child had a cold like this or had these symptoms and it was something else? im a bit worried so anyone who takes the time to read and respond thank you

Just as the doctor said..Probably some viral bug and her fever will be up and down for the next few days.

I hate fevers.

Even though my husband is a rotating 3rd year medical student I still get nervous when our daughter is all congested at night from a cold.

When my kids get hot (they lost the thermometer) I give them tylenol and they are fine.

Sounds like they did all the right tests and it's just a bug. Should hopefully go away in a few days. DD get awful fevers anytime she gets sick, which is rare thankfully. But when she does, she spikes at about 104 and is a sick mush.

One of my kids had a high fever like that once that just kept coming back, for like a week. She had no other symptoms of being sick, just waking up screaming with a fever. We took her to the doctor 3 times and the finally diagnosed her with an ear infection and gave her an antibiotic, I still doubt she actually had an ear infection I think they just wanted to get rid of us. Either way she recovered just fine. Its likely just viral like they said, just keep watching her .

A fever is a good thing   By raising the body's core temp, viruses and bacteria cannot grow as well in the hot environment. If she's acting fine, it's probably just a random bug her body has done it's job eliminating before it's symptoms could arise.

Babies run higher when their bodies are fighting something. It's not typically a bad thing as Long as it goes down with Tylenol and theres no signs of infection. You don't have to alternate Tylenol and ibuprofin. They work differently. You do Tylenol every 4 hours and ibuprofin every 6 regardless of when they had the other one. They can be taken at the same time.

Quoting blessed with girls x3:" One of my kids had a high fever like that once that just kept coming back, for like a week. She had no ... [snip!] ... wanted to get rid of us. Either way she recovered just fine. Its likely just viral like they said, just keep watching her ."

same kind f thing happened to my son. when he was around a year old his temp got up to 105 and we took him to the er. he was also throwing up all night. but they did tests and found nothing but his ears were just a little red. (could have been that he was screaming for an hr from having an iv) which they said but "just to be on the safe side" they gave us a prescription for amoxixillin which turns out hes allergic to and he had a full body rash for a week! his fever went away before the antibiotis would have helped it lol

It does sound like a viral infection. My daughter got one and ran a fever for nearly 4 days! With the temp going up and down so much I would cut down on the meds. I try not giving anything unless it's over 102. Unless she is acting different. A fever can actual be good for the body. Just an FYI a lot of kids get a rash after they break a fever. My daughter gets it pretty much all over.
