Constipated Baby?

posted 6th Oct
Okay, so my newborn is 3 weeks old and I have been primarily bf. 2 days ago, my left breast started to get sore, so I just used some lanolin and kept going. Well yesterday, the pain became unbearable, so I broke down and my baby ate 5 oz. of Gerber formula. Well now, he hasn't had a bowel movement all day when he normally has between 4 and 6. His belly is slightly distended. What can I do to help him? I have heard that feeding him 4oz. of water with a table spoon of 100% pasteurized apple juice will help? I am afraid to do this...any advice???

Put some vaseline on a qtip and swap around his tush first.
That should help everything come out.
He is entirely too young for water or apple juice.

I did try this, unfortunately to no avail. I am going to try a warm bath and then check back here.

DS was constipated horribly once and I bought these.

My pediatrician recommended them. You only use half of the liquid. But it work instantly. I didn't even have time to put a diaper on! It was a lifesaver.

when my oldest DS was around a month he was constipated and the Dr. had me put some KY on his anal thermometer and hold it in there (don't put it in too far) and it will stimulate the bowels... it worked! make sure you have a diaper laying under him and I would recommend some rubber gloves. but at 3 weeks I wouldn't give him apple juice.

after the bath move his legs in a cycling motion that sometimes will help..

always check with the peds office first.

WIth mine, when she was 4 mos she got constipated and the had me give her 1 ouce of apple or pear juice mixed with 3 oz of water and formula powder. but check with the office first because you shouldnt give juice to a newborn... i did it under their care.
