Breast feeding Questions!

posted 6th Oct
I'm 18 years old, and i'm expecting to have my daughter in the begining of December.
I REALLY want to breast feed her, for at least the first 6 to 8 months but alot of people have told me that i am too small to breast feed and I won't produce enough milk for my baby girl, is this true?
I weighed 110 before I got pregnant, I didn't think size or weight had anything to do with breast feeding her but alot of people have told me otherwise...
Any answers or thoughts?

Not true. You'll produce milk. And right on for wanting to BF! I loved it.

Don't listen to those people. Your weight has nothing to do with how much milk you will produce.

This is an awesome site with great info about breastfeeding. http://kellymom.com/

Educate yourself and surround yourself with people who support your decision to breastfeed. Good luck!

Size and weight has nothing to do with your ability to breastfeed. Your resolve to keep going through the painful beginning will probably be the determining factor.

Breastfeeding is all about supply and demand.
Baby demands. You supply.

This is one time where size really doesn't matter!

I haven't breastfed before (little guy won't be here until December)...but my sister-in-law breast fed her son, and she was almost flat as a board when she gave birth. Hell, my sister was the same way...she could breastfeed, she just didn't. I think it's more of the milk supply then the size.
I'd ask your doctor what he/she thinks, but I don't see why it would affect it. I mean really...it's what the things were made for. lol

The best tip I ever got was to just nurse through the pain. Put baby to breast as often as you can to stimulate your body to make milk. Do NOT suppliment with formula in the beginning because you do t think you're among enough. No one makes enough in the beginning, you have to nurse to establish a supply. And feed on demand, every time baby wants it. No skipping.

Breastfeed for as long as both you and baby/toddler are comfortable. There really is no right amount of time. Definitely start finding people who support you'd decision and find people who have nursed successfully for a long time. they are some of the best resources. I said I would only nurse for a few months but very quickly turned into two years of breastfeeding. It was a great experience. Very challenging and sometimes frustrating, but also very fulfilling.

Just go with the flow.   Personally, I am going to let my son chose when he wants to stop.

i was 15 when i had my son  i breast fed him till i dried up... i weighed 105 pounds b4 i got pregnant with him so no size Does NOT matter!! all i can say is talk to your doc if your concerned... you usually dont get your milk in till a few days after baby is born...( they eat the colostrum for the first few days) so good luck and like i said talk to your doc
