MRSA....

So I went for my 3wk PP check yesterday and I have these 2 knots on my stomach that I believed to be staph. I've never had it but I've seen it before and I know that you are more prone to infections, to that type, after surgeries and hospital stays. Well had a c-section and a tubal done so I definitely fit that. Anywho, it's right near my incision which started to get infected and leak a yellowish liquid w/ a slight green/bloody tinge w/ a foul odor so I freaked and called Dr. b/c I've read some horrible things about staph getting into your incision. Before I went in I took a bleach bath and then took a shower with some hibiclens and went straight there so he says that he saw no drainage and that it was infected but to just keep it dry and clean and prescribed a nystatin powder. Then I literally had to force him to look at the things on my stomach and he just goes, oh, it's MRSA... Like it's no big deal and not extremely contagious, especially to the very young( like my newborn!) and is quite possibly fatal! So does he tell me anything about the care/prevention/risks/ or when to go to the ER signs? nope. He just says he'll see me in 3wks at my 6wk PP appt. I'm kinda more than just a little bit upset! At the hospital if you have MRSA they quarantine you and though he didn't test me, I'm guessing that's what I have... I'm really scared that it'll pass on to my kids or that I'll now get huge boils that turn into ulcers for the rest of my life////

he's retarded to diagnose MRSA without a culture. MRSA is an antibiotic resistant staph infection..
you could have an infection and it not be staph, or you could have staph that responds to antibiotics. The ONLY way to know if it's MRSA is to culture it.
hell.. it could also be VRE, or MDRO.... there's no way to know without a culture.
that said... after a bleach and hibiclens cleaning... not sure if a culture would have been effective anyway.
I'd clean it daily and put neosporin on it... if that doesn't heal it... then go back and insist on a culture. But.. if it DOES take care of it.. I'd make DAMN sure I don't have MRSA on my medical chart.

I know!! Well, I've spent almost $50 on first aid supplies today- I bought a huge bottle of hibiclens, bleach, bactracin, gauze, big bandages, anti-bac soap, extra hand sanitizer, a bottle of alcohol, and extra sani-wipes! My main concern is spreading it to my LOs. And I think my Dr is an idiot that ought to have atleast gotten a culture on it, but what the hell do I know, I'm just an idiot that called his office on an early closing day and lord knows he probably had golf scheduled at 1...
