crib to toddler bed

can anyone give me advice on when your suppose to put them in a toddler bed and how to do it my 19 month old loves his crib and will only sleep there and nowhere else not sure how hes gonna handle a toddler bed

We converted DD's crib for her 2nd birthday. It was still her crib but was more a "day bed". She was climbing out of it, so we did this so I didn't have to worry about her hurting herself  

Then I figure if she was going to get out of bed and play or whatever, then she can just do that but wasn't allowed out of her room after bedtime. So there was a gate in front of her door. At first, she'd get up and play and what not, and fall asleep on the floor haha  

Eventually she would just stay in her bed.

i switched when mine started to climb out of her crib...
