We always "pay" in meals/baked goods...

My brother in law LOVES watching the kids and refuses to take money from us - so we'll invite him over for dinner.. I'll make whatever he wants and bake him cookies..

It's a win-win for us.
We get a babysitter. He gets his favorite foods.

My mom is the only one that watches DD. She would never accept money of any sort to watch her. I don't think it is wrong for someone to ask for money, although if my mom did ask for money to watch her once in awhile I would be a little put off.

My parents, SO's parents and my sister take turns watching her. I've offered numerous times to pay them and they get a bit offended lol they would pay me to watch her if I let them lol

The only time DD is ever watched is when FIL needs me to run errands. I pay him in coffee when I go to Starbucks and ask him to watch her (she doesn't like the amount of people at Starbucks and sometimes I need that sugary crap to get me through the day lol)

My Sister watches my Son for me, maybe once or twice a month, just so we can get some Mom and Dad time in. We always get her a pack of cigs, cuz thats what she wants. The only other people who watch him are my Mom, and MIL, and it's less than once a month, and they dont want anything, and were both kinda insulted when we offered.

This. I can't even imagine offering my Mom to pay her for watching the kids, haha. She would be so offended. I can just here it now: "Those are MY grandbabies! I'm not some babysitter!" ahahaha.

Every six months or so DH and I will go on a date for about 4 hours. We pay his sister to watch them and even provide meals. It kind of pisses me off, but it's whatever. I would personally never charge a family member to occasionally babysit.

I dont have a lot of family near me, okay I dont have any family near me.. my friends always offer to watch my daughter so my husband and I can have a date night or something. They do it for free, but I ALWAYS offer them money or try to make them take money. Though we all do the same for eachother, kind of like pay back.. you take my kid I'll take yours. Same goes for family. I'd never take money from them :p but its nice to not just have it expected.

I pay people even when they say they don't want the money. If they offer to take her on their own I will give them spending money to do whatever they want. I made my child with my husband so she was our choice to bring into this world. We are not entitled to free care by anyone (even our parents.)

You don't think they find that offensive? My family (grandparents) would be HIGHLY offended for me to try and force them to take money.

Of course, they watch the kids very rarely, far less then I think they'd probably like to. But paying a grandmother who wants to spend time with her grandkids? Shoot, I'd find that offensive.

I agree to the "not entitled" thing, but when people want to watch the kids for free?

I've never had to pay a family member to watch my kids... they usually would ask for them, pick them up and keep them...

Like thurs my cousins picked up jade from school, they went to disneyland that night, fri went to mall and movies, and I think they are bringing her home today haha,

Like I said I will give them or my child money to go and do something. I do this with my cousin often and she ends up buying my daughter something with the money that I send anyways.

Maybe that's the difference I guess. When my parents watch the kids they don't leave the house. It's NOT easy or fun trying to take out an 18 month old and a 2.5 year old. haha. So I drop the kids off there, they stay there until I pick them up again. No where to go, nowhere for spending money. I'd probably do what you're saying when they're bigger and going somewhere.

Yeah my daughter is 4 and always on the go. When she was younger I would take them to dinner or something as thanks.
