I'm not surprised. my bill was like 40,000$ something around there for my emergency section   what a damn shame.

Major surgery has to be more dangerous than a natural birth, I think.

I'm assuming he doesn't know about the infections you can get during a c-section, and complications during a c-section. Infections that antibiotics are getting harder to cure.

He is a paramedic, he should know... he has just been hearing a lot of horror stories lately and is freaking himself out.

I would honestly be more scared of a c-section.

The biggest risk with a vbac is your uterus rupturing (meaning it tears from the old insicision) and the baby can go into your stomach. It could cause the baby to have complications like cerebral palsy and even death it is also dangerous to the mother. The risk of that happening is .06% and if mother is induced it can go up to 5%..

My c-section and all of doctor appointments with Novali and my 3D ultrasound came to $10,000.    That was 5 years ago though...

Now it's up to $12,000.

But, in this country that's a lot of money!

ETA: No, wait.....

Math... hang on..... $1000. and $1,200.

Yeah, it's seriously cheap compared to the USA! You can get it done completely free here in "public hospitals", but the majority of the public hospitals scare the smurf out of me, and they have insane rules.

No problem.

He needs to educate himself. C-sections aren't considered safer by a long shot. They're just pushed a lot more often now because they make doctors and hospitals more money, they allow doctors to schedule deliveries instead of playing it by ear (convenience), etc.

Unfortunately it's no coincidence that despite the U.S. having the best technology in the world we still have the 2nd highest infant AND mother mortality rates of any first world country and this is directly linked to the fact that one out of three births are now done via c-section (major surgery which is always, always dangerous). No birth is 100% safe but vaginal births result in fewer complications and fewer deaths, even when it's a VBAC.

And you had to pay that? that's crazy.

I'm SO glad child birth here is free, even with a section...hospital stay, midwife (we dont have doctors look after pregnant women here, it's all midwives) U/S's and everything esle you have when pregnant, are ALLLLLLL free lol, dont need insurance either.

Are you allowed to have family members in the L&D room with you?? or in the hospital at all?? We get it all free but no one is allowed in except the patient

DH also wants me to have another c-section my next pregnancy. I was really willing to try for a VBAC but after reading so many horror stories regarding uterine rupture, I really dont know. The ideal thing for me was to have a VBAC cause I want to have 3 more kids and having c-sections might make it harder or impossible.
