Really Big Baby

posted 5th Oct
So,she's going to be 4 months next Tuesday...problem?She weighs 16 pounds and only fits in 6-12 month clothes   she's in size 3 diapers,2's don't even begin to fit anymore.Has anyone else's baby been this way?And she's a very crabby baby. She refuses to be left alone at all or set down, she screams, and nothing makes her happy,no swing,no bouncer, she hates the stroller, she hates being in the car..Help!

I bet she's a cute little chunk!
My son is 8 months old, IDK how much he weighs right now but he's tall so a lot of 12 month shirts fit him good. If her pedi doesn't see any concerns about her weight, then it shouldn't be a problem.
And my son went through a little phase where he just did not want to be on the floor or his jumpy. He always wanted to be held. Now he only wants to be held when he's sleepy and if you hold him when he's not he's constantly climbing and wriggling around.

I've tried to let her cry it out...she doesn't...she can scream,at the top of her very lungs, making herself sweaty and panicked, for three hours, and that's just when my mom has her when I'm at school..I feel helpless.Am I doing something wrong?

maybe she needs to change formula... i would consult her pediatrician and ask if there is anything you could do about her crabbiness. her being a little chunk probably isn't much to worry about considering babies loss weight like crazy when they start crawling and/or walking. Good luck to you and your daughter.

4 months old is too long to CIO. Especially for 3 hours!!

No we didn't let her CIO,we were holding her, rocking her, walking with her.She just works herself into this manic frenzy. No one can calm her down. She's reduced me to tears. And she's breastfed. She calms down when she nurses.I feel so bad.I don't know what I'm doing wrong here, guys, like seriously.I hold her, cuddle her, play with her, change her frequently,I try everything. It wasnt a CIO for three hours,it was her screaming in our arms.I've let her cry before when I was going to the bathroom(2-3 minutes) and she just screams manically.

Oh, I misunderstood that. I am at a loss for advice to you. Have you mentioned it to her pedi? Poor babe.

Crying it out this young won't do anything except for make it worse.
If she's breastfed, she might be reacting badly to your diet. Cut out dairy or foods that make you gassy for a few days and see if it helps.

I'm going to when we go in next week.I feel awful. She had colic but it's over pretty much.It almost seems she's in pain, and I can't understand why.She screams, draws her legs up,flails her arms, pinches and grabs, tears come to her eyes, her whole face turns red,she sweats profusely,I mean her hair will be drenched and she'll be all sticky and clammy.

exactly how my son was!! and he was so big, he was slow to roll over, sit up, crawl ect. (dont know if thats really the reason, but it appeared to be why he struggled) when he finally did get a little mobile, he was sooo happy. he started playing happily by himself, and is still idependent. which is a far cry from his colicy ways during the first 5 or 6 months. so hang in there! a trick i found, when my son first started playing in the floor, or swing, ect, if i got up to leave the room, i could leave wo tears if i didnt make eye contanct. lol, sounds awful, but if i didnt look at him he was fine! also, he hated the back and forth swing but liked the side to side motion. good luck mama!

I've cut dairy before,it did nothing,I cut a million different things, and nothing...I even tried not eating anything but bland stuff one day(rice and water and such) nope.I've only let her cry 2-3 minutes before because I went to the bathroom.

Size wise I wouldnt worry. My son is 2 months 15 lbs and in size 3-6 months about to go to 6-9 probably by the end of the month. Some babies are jut bigger.
As for fussyness she might have some gastrointestinal (sp?) problems, try something like Gripe water to help ease it. If she is formula fed try changing her formula. Have you thought of the possibility it could be heartburn? It can be very painful and would explain the screaming.

Certain studies are showing that crying it out leads to negative effects later in life. In my opinion she is way to little for CIO and I would talk to your mom about that. In three hours she should have been changed and probably fed depending on her eating habits.

I would take her to a doctor if I was you. Also look into the book "the happiest baby on the block" Its written specifically for babies with colic but has really great tips for calming extra fussy babies. I use the methods with my son daily and he is a fairly easy baby.

Best of luck to you mama.

She isn't slow at all though surprisingly, even my teen parent counselor was surprised. She held her head up at 2 weeks, rolled over at 3.She's trying to sit on her own and she'll stand up if you hold up and will stand for a long time.

She didn't CIO for three hours! I promise! She was changed, she was attempted to be nursed(rejected it,kept screaming) we tried, rocking, walking,a bath, massage, snuggles, everything. She just kept going.
