Hip dysplasia?

They want to do an X ray on my son because they believe that he may have hip dysplasia. I am wondering who has a child or has gone through this. I do not love the idea of the radiation on my 7 month old son, but want to know your expirences!! I would also like to knwo where your childs milestones were!!

Also I do not buy that he does. He has been crawling and cruising for like 2 months, he is standing by himself and close to walking? I just dont get it.

I was diagnosed with hip dysplasia as a baby. I crawled/walked pretty early. I never had any corrective surgery. However, I now have pains in my hip joints and my femur will occasionally pop out of socket. That's pretty painful, but I have learned how to pop it back in.

They are JUST NOW looking into it??

My daughter had hip dysplasia until she was around 4mo? They did Ultrasounds on her hips at about 2mo and saw her every 2wks to monitor it and make sure she didn't need a brace before she hit the crawling/walking stages..

I wonder why they're doing X-rays as well? They need to see the muscles & such in the hips- not just the bones.
I'd be asking lots of questions! Especially since he's already crawling & cruising just fine?

Thats what I thought. I already called a new pedi for a second opinion. I am very disheartened at the fact that they waited so long to do anything. When I looked it up it said that typically it is diagnosed by 3 months and when I looked at the ways they treat I KNOW my son will NOT let me put him in either brace. He is on the go and that is that. =/ I just dont know what to do and honestly I am afraid to tell the doctor no for fear that it will be considered neglect and the will call DCYF. And I know that I am good mom and I take good care of him I just dont need the needed stress. =/

My daughter has had a hip click since birth. She had an u/s a few hours after birth and one at 1 month. They didn't see anything abnormal. I hate to try and change her because her hip pops SO loud. It pops ALL the time. We switched pedis and she made an appt for us to go see an orthopedic at Riley Childrens hospital. She seemed pretty up set that nothing else was done at her old pedis. I'm glad I was finally able to get a new one! I'm really hoping and praying she doesn't have hip dysplasia. I've read it's not painful when they're little but if it's not fixed, when they get older their hip hurts a lot and can develope arthritis in the joint.

You're doing the right thing by asking for a 2nd opinion hun... I mean- that is serious negligence on the original Pedi's end. Hip dysplasia needs to be caught early as possible.. how dare that Pedi not check your baby's hips as a newborn & so on at every appointment! Shame on him/her!!
