re: Dieting vs. Health at Every Size (D&D)

lol yeah... You have a diet and you can diet.

Certain words make me crazy like that too... except I can't think of any at the moment... I also hate songs that use stupid words just because they rhyme.
Like that Christmas song with the star with a tail like a kite and the baby is cold so we lets bring him silver and gold... when a blanket would totally make more sense in context lol.... ANYWAYS......

:I'm currently gathering research to write a literature on Binge-eating disorder, obesity, and HAES as a possible treatment. Obesity is actually in my psychopathology book so I got to choose it for a topic, which I'm glad. If I have to write 10 pages on something it might as well be something I'm already familiar with. If I learn anything else more in depth I shall let you know.

I liked weight watchers, but there were a few things that I didn't like. I became obsessed with food and points. I couldn't enjoy myself at social functions because everyone would be eating and I couldn't let myself."I don't know how many points is in that" was a common mantra. Another thing was the fact that some very nutritive foods would end up being deleted from my diet because they had high calories. Ex. Avocados. I just could never get my grove back on the program after I had my kid either. It was probably mental... that and the fact that I would do it and exercise and gain like 10 lbs in a week anyway... and keep it. I was having thyroid complications too... It was all very disheartening at the time... and I sometimes I didn't even have the energy to brush my hair.

I also started nutrition response therapy before I discovered HAES and I couldn't handle counting calories and eating the nutritive foods I had to. It would have been overwhelming, even thought my mom kept hounding me and sometimes still does. I mean if you think about the extent of my dietary restrictions because of sensitivities... that's enough to make me crazy!

and I'm rambling so I'll stop now. lol

I can understand what you mean. I think there is no perfect answer for everyone.

For me, weight watchers works well. Also, they changed it in the last year so points aren't done by calorie. they're done by fat, carbs, fiber, and protein. I personally think that's a better method.

I think like with anything people can get obsessed. Everything is moderation I say, which means sometimes I either use my extra point and estimate best I can, or I say "smurf this" and I have a day (at a party or whatever) where I try to make smart choices but don't count. One bad day doesn't ruin any "diet," lol. So I know that I can get back to making better choices the next day. I think a lot of that attitude has come from the Fat and Happy ideas, because it makes the weight loss sort of secondary. Well, for me it's sort of important because of pain, but the healthy things I'm doing are far MORE important.

So even if I don't lose, or I only lose a little, I'm not too worried. It'll come off as it's supposed to if I stick with eating good amounts of healthy foods and moving more.

So, I think at the end of the day I guess nothing is perfect for everyone, haha.
