Why won't they let you pass 39 weeks with her breech? Don't know a lot about breech babies...just wondering?

I had a scheduled (repeat) c/s with #2. Recovery was easy compared to recovery from my first (an emergency c/s).

Biggest things to remember: don't try to sit straight up in bed when you wake up in the middle of the night (roll out of bed), keep up with pain meds if you need them (I used mine less than a week), and don't overdo it or you can hurt yourself where you have stitches.

Because going into labor with a breech baby is not safe, the chord can get wrapped around her neck or she can die if they do try delivering her, & my doctors will not attempt to deliver a breech baby or put me at risk by going up to 40 weeks with her.
So before my water breaks or anything happens 39 weeks is were we are doing the c section.

Oh okay. Makes sense. Good luck mama!

My first was a csection (this will be a csection as well I am scheduled for the 29th as of right now .. which too might change if i look like im starting to go down the path of going into labor) .... it really wasn't bad. I mean of course its something to be a little nervous about since it is surgery but there are so many complications for both a vaginal birth and csection.

My csection went so smoothly - she was out within a few minutes they stitched me up i went into recovery for two hours and was up and walking the next day =) my recovery went awesome as well - of course i was sore (which is expected either way) but i honestly have NOTHING bad to say about it ... except now i have a pouch on my belly. With this one I am the same way - I am nervous some days and then SO FREAKING EXCITED THE NEXT ... I am sure the day I go in I am going to be very nervous again but thats because of the whole thought of surgery lol

My baby was breech and I was going to have a scheduled c-section at 38 weeks - I cried my eyes out when I was told this, I was so scared to have a c-sect and wanted to have my baby naturally. I ended up going into labour naturally at 36w1d. Had to have a quick scan when i got to the hospital to see if he had flipped but he hadn't so they took me in for an emergency c-sect. Once I realized that I was going to meet my baby soon I was soo excited.
The actual procedure was a breeze - once the epidural was in (which wasn't too bad) I couldn't feel a thing... It wasn't long before they took my baby out and I was holding him for the first time which was absolutely amazing. It took a while to stitch me back up but it felt like no time at all!
Recovery wasn't too bad either, I was up and walking a little bit within hours, by the end of the week I was walking around the block. By the end of six weeks I felt nearly back to my old self (minus sleep).

In all, I had a great experience with my c-section. Everyone is different, but the best advice I was given was to get moving as soon as you can (though not to over do it), and take all the pain relief offered to you (even if you don't feel pain)

Wishing you the best of luck for a wonderful experience :-)

that was another thing I did. Every 4 hours in the hospital i was taking my pain meds - even if i wasn't feeling the pain. When i got home i made sure it was every 4 hours and after a day or so of being home i would take it if i felt pain which eventually turned into nothing.

& yes get moving when you can. My epidural lasted a little longer then it should have - so i didn't get up until the next day. but once i did i walked to NICU as often as i could (DD was in NICU for breathing problems for 2 days) and same as her after a week i wasn't taking pain meds and could walk around normal without over doing too much and by 6 weeks it was normal again.

Dont worry about the spinal being painful. Its not. The IV is actually more painful than the spinal.

The surgery is not bad. You will feel some tugging as they take the baby out. If you feel nauseous during the procedure, tell the anesthesiologist. They wave alcohol swabs in front of your nose and it helps a lot. The surgery doesnt last long. My LO was out really quick. The stitching up afterwards is what took the longest time. Try to sleep for the hour that you are in the recovery room. Make sure to take the pain killers regularly or else the pain will hit you like a Mac truck.

Day 2 of recovery is HORRIBLE because of gas. The gas was the most painful thing about the whole procedure and recovery. Take the gas pills they give you. A nurse taught me a really effective trick for helping with the gas, ginger ale decaff tea. Bring a case of Canada dry ginger ale and decaff tea (I got Lipton). Heat up the Canada dry ginger ale and steep a tea bag in it. Walk around your room and the halls while drinking the tea. As soon as I started doing that, I felt a lot better!

I recovered quickly. I stopped taking the pain meds after a week. The first week was hard because I couldnt attend to the better very well. I had a hard time getting in and out of the bed. Wiping after using the toilet was difficult and so was taking a shower the first few days. Definitely take home a peri bottle. It helps a lot. I'm 4 weeks pp and I feel awesome. I'm back to my usual self. Although, I dont lift anything too heavy and I'm still on pelvic rest out of precaution. The last thing I want it so have the incision open up either internally or externally. Ouch!

Ugh, getting out of bed was hard. The nurses showed me a few tricks. The staff at the hospital I delivered at were fabulous. I used a step stool when I home to get in and out of bed. The extra height helped me so that I wouldnt have to sit up right. I would roll to the edge and put my feet over onto the step stool. Then use the wall and my night stand to raise myself up. It took some maneuvering but eventually I got the hang of it! I hated having to rely on my husband so much during the first few days. I felt so helpless. It wasnt fun having to watch DH take care of the baby the first few nights and not be able to help.

My c-section wasn't bad at all. once you can't feel anything it's so much better. The pitocin to get you into labor sucks the most I would say. Those contractions are hell. The procedure was actually really exctiting and fun. Therecovery is hell. The stiches hurt. And I got an infection afterwords so I was at the hospital for a while. I had to have my ex BD wipe my butt for me because it was so painful. But it was the best option for me, and it sounds like it's the best and safest option for you as well.
