re: Induced with pitocin?

Same.

I had a couple of rounds of cervidil first. And then I was given the option of getting pitocin right away or going home over night. I chose to go home over night and by the time I was back at the hospital for our arranged time, I was almost in active labour. I didn't need much pitocin (very low dose).

I had planned a natural birth. I ended up giving birth without pain medication as I had wanted. I was able to labour in the tub as planned and my doula was at my side. The midwives used a wireless monitor that is waterproof  . I gave birth less then 4 hours after getting the pitocin, and almost an hour of that was pushing.

It was amazing!

1st: painful and long- but I wasn't dialated at all and no where near labor, so that may have had something to do with it...

2nd:a lot faster but I was already 3-4cm pain wasn't bad at all

I was induced with Pitocin both times and it was great! Both times I progressed a lot faster than I was on my own. Once it got painful I got my epidural both times. Then I had my kids within an hour after that both times. I guess it sucks if you don't get drugs but it was a breeze with an epidural.

Honestly it was a long and hard labor until i was able to get the epidural then it was fine. I was in full labor for a total of 37 hours and change.

well i was contracting on my own, bu my Dr wanted to speed up labor so she gave me pitocin. i also had back labor, with no epidural. it was worst pain evvvvver. the labor wasn't too long, i've heard of a lot longer labor stories.

Ugh, now I'm hating the idea even more. Due to being high risk, both my OB and high risk specialist want me to be induced no later than 39 weeks (I don't want to be induced at all!) But I know that my OB uses Pitocin before and over anything else. Is there a way for me to have them use something else to induce, or would anything that they use be just as horrible?

Quoting shes.so.vain:"   exactly what happened to me. i wanted to try to have a natural birth [well as natural as i could ... [snip!] ... as i could with pitocin] and i was stuck at 4 for the longest time. got the epi, and i was ready to push two hours later."

Girl it literally took 30 minutes for me to dilate after that! lol I was like "smurf, I should have got that like 5 hours ago!" I have incompetent cervix so we have no idea how long it would take for the baby to come (could have been really fast) so my doc had me come in as soon as contractions started (no matter how light) because I needed antibiotics for GBS so they induced after that. My daughter was physically ready as far as her lungs and stuff went but she was not ready herself because she was sunnyside up and came out that way. Pushing her out was soooooooo hard because of this and her head was all kinds of scraped up from trying to get under my bones.

Quoting Unicorns Unite! [12wks]:" Very intense. I was induced both times with Pitocin, both labors were 6 hours. I got an epidural the first time, did no pain meds the second time."

I agree, it was intense. Much more intense then my second labour (mostly spontaneous).

I relied heavily on my doula. But I still walked away from my first child's birth wondering how I got so lucky, that there was no way giving birth would be that easy or wonderful for me again  . I was a little scared to think of having a second. But the second labour was even more wonderful then the first (different).

They gave me some sort of little blue pill to try and start labor. I have no idea what it was called, but they just shoved it up there, but it didnt work, which was why they had to give me pitocin.

My labor started on its own, but I was given pitocin because I wasn't dilating any further after I got the epi. It was on a slow drip, but after like 10 minute my son's heartrate went down super low super quick. Like low enough and quick enough to have my room fill up with nurses in about 15 seconds. They took me off it and after awhile started it again and the same thing happened. He was basically like don't rush me! As soon as they took me off completely I started progressing super fast.

Look up Bishop Score and talk to your doctor about it. If you cervix is not ready, request Cervidil to help ripen it. It sometimes puts women into labour without needing Pitocin (though, most of the time they need it). Or you can try a Foley Bulb to help dilate your cervix (though I don't know anyone who has used one).

There is mixed information about breaking the water to start labour.

My friend was induced with cervadil and a foley bulb! She wanted a natural labor but ended up being induced. Her doctor was natural supporting though so they were using Pitocin as a last resort.
