  this is really smurfed up. When you get involved, especially married to someone with kids, you are accepting the kids too or you shouldn't be with them. Your sole reason for hating this kid, not that there would be any good reason, is that he costs you a lot of money in child support and traveling to get him? That's lame   It's not he kid's fault where you live. If my So had a kid from a previous relationship, I'd be proud of him for paying child support and going so far to see his kid instead of being a deadbeat dad.

my SO has doesn't have any kids, but we have talked randomly about "what would happen if a girl said she had your kid" - he'd get a DNA test and WANT to be involved, like any decent parent would.

Yep, that's how it should be! I have an almost 7 year old who isn't my SO's kid. We've had a lot of hard times but my SO doesn't hate him, he loves him and tries to do everything he can to get along with him. (My son has ADHD and before treatment life was hell here) but he stuck it out, he tries to teach my son things, etc. I'd flip out if he said he hates my kid.

yep! my SO is super involved with my LO and he always encourages me to not give up in custody battles and all that. and he wants LO full time just as much as i do. that's how it should be.
