Drinking during pregnancy???!!!???
posted 5th Oct
I am pregnant with my second child, and the only thing I have been craving is an ice cold beer after a good meal. I don't even drink beer, anytime I have drank it was always just mixed drinks, liquor not beer! I did not drink while pregnant with my first child and haven't drank so far in this one, but the craving for a beer after dinner is pretty intense! I asked my OB/GYN what she thinks and she said if once a week I crave ONE beer after dinner it's fine, as long as i'm not chugging back a six pack, she said to think about the women in Italy who have a glass of wine with each meal even during pregnancy, which made sense to me but I guess even though I shouldn't be, with today's society i'm worried about what everyone would think. Do you think having a beer after dinner once in a while during my pregnancy is irresponsible? Or should I stop worrying about it and since my doctor said that it was OK, give my body what it's asking for? Would really love some opinions please!

I personally wouldn't do it, mostly because I loathe alcohol, but if your doctor is okay with it, one isn't going to hurt anything and it might make the craving stop.

Wine is different than beer. Wine is good for you heart (in moderation) and its usually red wine. That being said personally I wouldn't risk it. I too craved beer but they make non-alcoholic beer so get that.

I would do it, especially if I'm not used to drinking beer.
Maybe you'll remember how awful it is and it'll kill your craving!
Also, for most of my preggo cravings, they went away the second I got what I was craving. If your OB is cool with it, then I don't see the problem in doing it just once.

They make non-alcoholic beer? (lol I am so not a drinker of beer.) This might be a solution!

I wouldn't do it, personally....but, if you were to give into your craving, do you have to have the full beer? Maybe just pour some into a small glass and have a few sips or something. Your body could just be wanting a little taste of it? I'm not sure how cravings work, since I didn't have any when I was pregnant...

One beer is good for you and your kidneys.
They did a study and said one beer or one glass of wine doesn't hurt. But like with all things there can be risks associated with it. You've discussed it with your doctor. It's up to you.

red wine is good for you. But drinking a beer after dinner on a daily really isn't a good idea.

I craved alcohol my entire pregnancy. I did have a few glasses of wine at the end to try to start labor. Didn't work, but it was nice to finally satisfy that craving.
