Do they have a live in option? Some hospitals don't say it up front and you have to ask but some not all have live in rooms off the unit which they allow you to stay in the duration of your child's stay in the NICU this saved me cause I would have balled being away from him.

I'm sorry hun it's not easy but I would just go in several times a day/night and feed and rock him if you can just so you and your lo have that contact. Cause I know that is the hardest part never being able to really hold them and always wondering if they are ok and when they are coming home. If you need to talk feel free to pm me my heart goes out for you and your family and I will keep you all in my prayers.

It's not selfish it's normal my son was a 34 weaker and he was there for a month and even being down the hall I would go into the the NICU and sit and hold his hand for hours till i finally felt tired enough to go to sleep by the time i got back to the room I was wide awake and couldn't sleep cause I wanted him there and to know he was all right. Your his mom and that's a natural response it really isn't selfish and your welcome anytime

I can't give you any advice because I didn't do so well myself.   My baby was in there for 3 months with no live in option. The hospital was over an hour away from our house.   I almost went completely crazy! Good luck Mama.

Is there a Ronald McDonald House anywhere near the hospital? That's where my husband and I stayed for the 80 days Eli was in the NICU. They provide lodging and meals for free, but you can give a donation to them.

Yes, the Ronald McDonald house is good! Unfortunately, when our Eli was in the NICU we weren't able to stay in ours. They only let you stay for free at ours if you were 50+ miles away and we were 48 miles away.

That is a shame   I don't know what I would have done if I had to be so far away from him for that time. I was a basketcase just going a half mile down the road from him! we spent every day from 8am to 10pm with him in the NICU and did all of his care once we were allowed to which was about a week after he was born. If we had to drive all the way home we wouldn't have been able to do that. The only days we weren't with him was the three days before he came home from the hospital so we could get the house ready. I didn't know RMH put those kinds of limits on it.
