I wasn't sure if I should post this here on BG but I decided since this is a place for parents we should ALL know about this horrible disease.
My dear friend lost her daughter at only 6 months of age due to Spinal Muscular Atrophy also known as SMA. This disease is rare but still very common. Here is a little bit about this disease....
Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a motor neuron disease. The motor neurons affect the voluntary muscles that are used for activities such as crawling, walking, head and neck control, and swallowing. It is a relatively common "rare disorder": approximately 1 in 6000 babies born are affected, and about 1 in 40 people are genetic carriers.
I created a video in memory of Milania, whom we called Millie, that video had over 2,000 hits!! Great news to Brianna (Milania's mother) because that means more and more people are becoming aware of this horrible disease. Please, watch Millie's video and share it on your FB, Twitter etc! There is also more information in the description box and links to donate to a non profit charity. Thank you.
I'm so sorry for her loss, i lost my first born at age of 3 to SMA it happened 10 yes ago but still feels like yesterday! My heart it's breaking for her! She will be in my thoughts!
