WHEN AND HOW TO MAKE HER STOP? MY DAUGHTER IS 2 AND I HAVE ULTRASOUND PHOTOS OF HER SUCKING HER THUMB IN WOMB. PEOPLE SAY I NEED TO TRY TO MAKE HER STOP NOW OR SHE WILL ALWAYS DO IT.

Everything I've read has said that the more you fight it, the longer they'll do it. My DD is in the same boat. She's 2, she still sucks hers.

Devon has always sucked his thumb.

He's cut back a lot though.
I don't do anything to draw attention to it.

Right now, the twins will be 3 next month, and Devon only sucks his thumb while he's sleeping, crying, or watching tv (sometimes).

REPLYING FROM PHONE AND SEEMS TO MAKE EVERYHING CAPTIALIZED. IT PERSONALLY DOESN'T BOTHER ME. JUST  LOTS OF NEGATIVE COMMENTS FROM OTHERS. SHE SEEMS TO DO IT WHEN TIRED OR OVERWHELMED BY SOMETHING.

The only person I know who sucked their thumb is my Dad. At 50 years old, I still catch him sometimes when he thinks no one is looking LOL.

its a comfort thing.
and should let up, unless they're fairly distressed and need the soothing..
I had an ex who religiously sucked his thumb until he was 15. and at 19 still sucked his thumb and twirled his hair when he was upset.

I wouldn't worry too much. just watch their teeth. some dental problems can come from thumb sucking.

My mom was telling me that she sucked on her fingers until she was 5 or so, and she had a blanket that she carried around with her everywhere. I was like, "No smurf! Your parents were alcoholics, and your mom tried to kill your dad!" Her childhood was a prime example of stressful childhoods. She's a midwife, and she still was like, "That makes so much sense!" lol
