eating TOO much?

posted 4th Oct
DD had her 4 month check up yesterday. it was a wk late though. anyway, since about a month and a half- 2 months, her pedi has been on me because DD was dropping in her percentiles. she's starting to go up in them- wt27%, ht32%, hc44%. she was in the teens on all of them. well now he's trying to say that she's eating too much. said that was part of why she's been spitting up a lot. make up your mind dude! 1st you're telling us she isn't eating enough and now too much! he says that at 4 months old, she shouldn't be eating 8 oz in a setting. ok? so how am i supposed to not do that when she gets mad if you take the bottle from her before she's finished?! he said to start giving her vegetables so she can learn to eat food but to let most of her nutrition come from formula. he says that she should have 24-32 or 36 oz a day, and to give her food 3-5 times a day. this just doesn't sound right to me. is it?

Have you tried filling up the bottles less, or getting maybe a 4 or 6 oz bottle to use?

And i've heard you arent suppose to introduce food till 6 months.

My DD was drinking 8 oz by 3 months. However, if your baby is spitting up a lot it
Could mean she is eating too much. It happens. And if you are comfortable giving your baby food then you can but you don't need to just yet if you don't want to

Yeah, you're not supposed to give fruits/ veggies until 6 months.. Cereal, maybe if you need to thicken her food, but that's only if she's hungry after you've already fed her! Babies know how much they need to eat!! Maybe try switching to a more sensitive formula to help with the spitting up, or mixing cereal with her formula, although.. it still seems pretty early even for rice cereal.

we've tried that. we end up having to go back and put more in it. i didn't want to start her on food yet. i tried some but she doesn't like any of it so i think its gonna wait till 6 months anyway.

i won't put it in her bottle. i have spoon fed it to her and she seemed to like it but won't eat anything else really.

I would. Did you ask the pedi about rice cereal?

I'd consider that then. I've heard it helps them keep the milk down when you put it in their bottle with the milk.

Really? Thats the way they say to do it when babies have reflux. Its the only way i've ever heard it being doen.

Yeah, my SIL put it in the bottle when her preemie had reflux.. I've never heard of it being a choking hazard, but idk I was EBF so my son never had a bottle. I'd try rice cereal first though, definitely easier on the stomach than other solid foods!

pediatrician said the same about DD she has 35 oz a day. i tried to cut back but she freaks. he said im consoling her with food but im really not. i change her, hold, swing, walk.. do everything i can and she will not stop crying even after a hour of screaming until i feed her. shes a big baby tho... shes 2 months and 12 lbs 10 oz. if you do the "formula math" 2.5 times her weight shes right on so i dont get how im over feeding her.

My DS is 7 months now and even though he eats some solids, he still eats approx 40oz of formula a day. He has ALWAYS eaten more then the 'normal' and spit up a LOT. I tried to cut him back but he honestly just cries.. I'm not going to starve him! And it doesnt matter how much solids I give him that day he still just wants his milk! I had a pedi recently tell me that this is flat out WRONG and that I need to force him to eat more food and give him less milk and if he cries after its done to just let him cry and he will get used to it but I think its just retarded.. I'm not going to force feed him solids when he doesnt need them and then starve him of formula.

LONG story short lmao, I just kept giving him all the formula he wanted and having solids when he wanted them. Hes 7 months now and he still spits up but MUCH less so I think he's just growing out of it and I'm sure your DD will too. dont worry or look into it too much!
