I'm not 100%....BUT, nothing stimulates your breasts/brings in your milk better than a baby, so you'd probably get more than you would using any other method (pump, hand etc.)

Possibly. Babies are MUCH more efficient at getting milk out then compared to pumps or hand expression. (I can only get barely a half ounce through pumping.)

Maybe the milk passing through can clear your blocked ducts.

I think I'm going to try it. I just lost hope last time around but I'd love to mix feed this time.
So when I have him and they put him on my chest, do I try it then?

See I thought since pumping was doing nothing at all (but hurting) that my Son wouldn't be able to pull anything either. I just focused on drying it up and getting through the pain of it.

yep! Just put him right to breast. They usually latch right on, my kids didn't. I just kept trying and talked to a lactation consultant.

babies are more efficient at getting out milk. He'd be more likely to unclog you then anything else.

I'd feel so stupid with him sucking away at nothing though   How will I know if he isn't getting anything at all?

Having regular wet diapers is the best indicator. Also, when your milk comes in you will definitely be able to tell if he's getting anything if you're still really engorged after nursing.

True.
Thank you so much! I'm still going to take formula to the hospital (just in case) cause I don't want my wee man to starve.

you will know based on wet diapers.
but - it takes a few days for milk to come in and sometimes, you might dry nurse / or comfort nurse. Reese still comfort nurses even though she is getting plenty of milk. It isn't weird or anything!

I do remember last time I was home when the engorgement happened so it must have been about 2 days since birth. I think I'm going to try it. I will talk to the Nurses and what not and explain my situation. I just don't want someone coming in being bossy, making me uncomfortable or hovering

it doesn't hurt to try. go in with an open mind that it may or may not happen for you. ask for help from friends. if your LC at the hospital sucks, ask for a different one. get DH on board for support.

I dont know a ton about scar tissue, but I will say if you felt engorgement, you are capable of producing milk which is very promising.

I guess that's what it was. They were so hard and hurt so bad. But nothing, I mean not even a drop would come out. It was the worst thing ever cause I could get no relief at all. I packed my sports bra with cabbage leaves and by the next day I was a lot better with the pain and firmness.

DH will be on board for sure cause formula isn't cheap. I don't want to exclusively breast feed cause of work but I'd like to mix feed for sure.

can you ask your dr about the scar tissue? I wonder if they have suggestions.
I haven't had any experience with this.
