I don't look down on people who use them in the correct and legal way. I also think it should be temporary.

I agree. And I'm sorry that you can't work
Have you ever though about trying to do some stay at home job? Even if it's not a lot of income? Just to give you that "I MADE this money" feeling?
I was out of a job for a little over a month and almost went crazy lol. With me being stuck in the house and not having the money to pay bills, and then my food stamps being messed up I was literally on my last straw

Then grow your own garden. The food you buy have been processed and everything. That's what you're paying for. And how hard it is to get.

Do you know how much daycare costs? DH is a medical student, so he can't work since he is in school 5 days a week and every moment he is home he is studying non-stop. I can't afford to go back to work for $12/hr full time. It would barely cover the monthly daycare costs! And if I went back, it would mostly be a 9-5ish if not later, since I am an MA, and I have a 6 year old I need to pick up from school at 3 every day. So she would also need afterschool care on top of daycare for DS. We get assistance, and I turned down the cash, only took the medical and food stamps and completely regretting it. We have $1,700 to last until january, and it just won't make it since we own our house and have a mortgage. Thankfully DH is able to get a bit more student loans. I don't know what I would do without the food stamps, especially since it covers DS's reflux formula, and I can't use WIC since they don't contract our brand.

I plan to. I get that it's shipped from across the country and what not and people are busting their ass for it, but I think they should make farms in every state (if possible) and that way it would be cheaper. Or figure out a better way for people to eat. NO ONE should starve. Especially here. I work, I'm 9 months pregnant working all the way to my due date, my SO works and gets as many side jobs as he can. It's still not enough. And we only have a few bills, rent, electricity, and internet/cable. Our cars our paid off, but repairs are a bitch, plus gas. And all the toiletries. It's sad that we are scraping by, being that the rest of our money goes to preparing for the baby.

My thing is that, yes, there ARE people out there that actually milk the system but ultimately if you truly are getting every form of assistance and have no job then you still aren't even living comfortably. They only give you enough to get by. So that means you are probably renting, still running out of food stamps at the end of the month, and are wearing older clothes, shoes, etc.
I don't think I have ever seen someone that lives off assistance that "has it all". So I really think that a good portion of the people getting assistance NEED it.

I voted if you need it you need it. I think a lot of people look down on the abusers and generational welfare collectors.

Have you looked to see if your state offers any daycare assistance? If ours didn't then I wouldn't have been able to get a job.   Luckily since we don't make very much they pay for all of it and now I can work

Yep & I'd never be proud that I couldn't support my own child.

If you need it, you need it.

But it shouldn't be a lifestyle.

It's fine for a temporary fix, but you need a plan. It drives me nuts when people chose to, or try without trying to have kids while on assistance. Just wait.

How do you know someone didn't give her that money to buy those tickets for them?

LOL Do "I" know how much it costs? Yeah, actually I do. I will be paying $1,200 a month when baby #2 is here. I could easily quit work to save some money but I'd never do that knowing I'd be quitting to rely on assistance or even give up the lifestyle my family is used to having.
