I feel if the person truly needs the help then they should take advantage of whatever help they have offered to them..that's what it is there for right?

I also feel that this temporary assistance should be just that..temporary.
People shouldn't be able to live off of it for years kwim?

I get food stamps. I work a full-time job, go to school 3/4 of the time and work a part-time job..I have no children, but I do have a car, insurance, rent and utilities to pay for so by the time I can go to the grocery story I hardly have any cash to buy food with..if there is problem, I am unaware of it..

I don't see why this would even be an issue. We are getting food stamps and we are on WIC. I can't find a job..trust me, I've been looking. We live on our own with SO working for 12/hour. Calculate it..it's not much, at all. We are making it.

Yes, there are people that abuse it, but more people actually need it. Sorry that your tax money is going into the belly of my child. My child is right now drinking milk paid for by your tax money, complain about it.

I can honestly say if you need food stamps/ assistance than it is what it is. Now the problem I have is that people milk the system and purposefully avoid getting jobs just so they can sit on their asses and collect "free" money. I have nothing against those who are struggling to make ends meet and mean well to try and make it work so they can support themselves and children. Food stamps and public assistance aren't a bad thing as long as you aren't driving around in an Escalade, lambo or brand new Porsche in my opinion while collecting them( I have seen this in my area it makes me sick.) I have seen people go into stores like Limited and BeBe and try to use their Access cards to buy clothing, now those are really high scale stores, if there's a money issue there are other stores who have very good sales and you can purchase 10+ outfits for the 1 they were intending to buy. I have a brother-in-law who gets a large amount of food stamps but refused to get a job as did his wife. It annoyed me because a chunk of my tax dollars went to them having the ability to sit on their asses and play on their computers, and watch t.v leisurely while I busted my ass 40+ hrs a week. It all depends on the situation though.

I dont look down on people with food stamps. Hell Ive applied twice and was denied I REALLY need them to the point I skip eating a couple of days to make rent. I wish they looked at bills to determine eligibility and not just income.

We have been on food stamps and Medicaid plus heating assistance and it helped us a lot. We have gotten off of them now but it took us around 3 years. I think that if you need them, then get them and I do not look down on others for being on them. My mom really needs food stamps but she won't do it because she thinks she to high mighty and I hate it! I do think its smurffy that there are so many people that are on government assistance and just abusses it.

Smurf I'm on it!! Until I'm done with school and making enough money to afford some damn food with how expensive groceries are. BUT! The chicks who go up in there with their nails done, hair highlighted, coach bags, fancy shoes, and nice blinged out cars. Ya...I see why some people look down on it. I haven't bought myself clothes or even shoes all year. I have one pair of tenni's and a few heels from high school. Most of my clothes are from when i worked 2 jobs and lived with my dad so I didn't have to pay a ton of bills by myself and had extra money for myself. I've been on medicaid since I was like 10 and food stamps. I don't really see why people even should have to pay for food, it grows from the earth. It's ridiculous that someone says we have to pay for something that is our born right to have in order to survive.

I dont mind people on foodstamp if they need them. What i do mind is people who can work but do not work because they dont want to getting foodstamp. Then wasting the foodstamps on people who live off of them. Otherwise no problems here. If you cant work or are working but not making enough then all power to you to get foodstamps.

It depends.
Some have my compassion and/or sympathy and some don't.
To say "hey, if you need it, you need it" doesn't apply. I have a cousin who is a lazy sack of excrement. She is healthy and capable but would rather bounce off the bottom of society than get a job and keep a job. She does not have my sympathy. Inlookndown on her.
I have 22 y/o friend who had a bad family life and never thought about her future. She is on FS as she has no job. She just enrolled to get her GED. I have some compassion for her but if she doesn't get it together soon, I will look down on her.

With the exception of the disabled, those on FS without a solid plan that will get them off FS, I will not likely think highly of them.

Eh, I receive assistance and am a SAHM.
I don't know how I'd have time to work with going to school 5 times a week...
