Depo Provera causes bone loss and increases your chances of having osteoperosis later in life. They were supposed to tell you to take at least Vitamin D, but you should be taking Vitamin C too.

Don't take this the wrong way, but when I was younger, no one felt like they had to tell me about these things either. I didn't get options so I didn't know about them. As a mother, you've probably already learned that choosing things for your health and well-being means making a lot of decisions based on personal research. There are PLENTY of women here that can tell you about B/C options that aren't as damaging. Check the Sex and Relationships Forum...there is a sticky there that talks about birth control options.

If you're okay with depo, then that's completely fine, but I just think you're too young for it honestly. You want to get something that will keep you reproductively healthy. You're not even done growing at 17!

I had spotting for a month at a time when I was on depo. The whole last month before I was due for another shot. Then when I stopped in May, I had a period from August to the beginning of October. I asked the clinic about it a couple times and they said spotting was normal. But I don't think non-stop bleeding for 3 months is healthy for a 19 year old. Never getting the shot again. After reading this I hope I can still have children. The clinic I was going to looked up everything on their iphones. lol So, of course they didn't tell me much about it before offering it to me.
