Induce or wait to go into labor?? Epidural or iv meds?

posted 4th Oct
Im having my first baby in November and the choices are getting so hard. My mom wants me to induce so she can be sure she will be there ( she is a nurse) and it sounds nice to have the baby sooner, but i heard inducing slows the labor down and can be more painful. But the though seems nice to experience natural labor too. Idk what to do...
Then theres the option of an epidural or iv meds.... i hate pain but i hear people say there backs not the same after having an epidural....... decisions decisions..
What do you think??

Unless you have a medical reason, you don't need to be induced. When you induce labor, your forcing your body to do something that it is not ready to do. Your chances of a c-section also go up. As for using meds, that's really up to your personal preference.

I've done both (epidural and medication free) and I preferred my med free birth experience.

Inducing for any reason other than a medical life or death reason is stupid IMO.

I was induced with my first and I was only in labor for 5 hours. The pain wasn't bad at all untill right b4 I got the epi, then 40 mins after gettin the epi it was time to push!!

Also, IV meds did nothing for me, I never felt the epi go in and Ive had no back problems.

My honest opinion is wait it out. Only induce if need be. And only get the epidural if need be. But I would get the epidural over iv meds. I am getting ready for my third induction and am keeping an epidural as an option, but in no way have planned all of this.

Personally, I would wait it out and not go the induction route. It can be pretty hard for first time labors (and even subsequent labors). It is something that I, personally, think should only be done in certain circumstances.

As for the epidural/iv meds.. that's something that is a personal decision. I had 3 epidurals with my first daughter, and none of them worked. I had one with my second daughter, and I was 110% numb - but that was not your average epidural, either. You'll hear stories from both sides of the fence, with both of these topics.

Best of luck to you!

I would wait it out, research risks of induction.

theres no reason to induce.
medication depends on your pain tolerance. I had my son medication free and I didnt think labor was that bad at all. But that was my only experience with it, my next might suck balls lol

yeh i thought you could only induce if there was a medical problem but my doctor was telling me he does it usually just because the mothers are tired of being pregnant.. but ur cervix has to be soft and all... it just seems not natural though to me...... and i think thats what im going to do.. have the epidural as an option and see what i can do without it... im a big baby though and have no idea about what to expect....

You were induced at 38 weeks?

I think if your body was ready then you would have went naturally.

They decided to induce me cuz I was already 4 cm dilated and my BP had been high for 4 weeks straight.

So a medical issue.
