Losing weight before TTC

posted 4th Oct
Hello Ladies,

I have a question. My husband and I have been off and on TTC, but we are getting more serious about it now. I will be starting to track my BBT, etc. However, I am overweight.
I am 5'3 170lbs. When I got pregnant with my son I was 147 and went up to 180 at birth. My struggles with postpartem depression, lactation issues and body image kept me gaining. After I had Gabe, I went down to 161lbs and then back up to 185lbs at my heaviest.
I am now down to 170lbs, not sure why, because I haven't been trying, but YAY anyway.
So, my husband, who is a true gentlemen, won't mention my weight being an issue with a second pregnancy, but I know it could possibly be. My question is, have you ever put off you TTC because of weight? and please share how you may have lost weight before. I have tried restricted calorie diets and exercise, but they don't seem to have much of an effect. We eat mostly organic whole foods, and very little processed foods. Any ideas? WW? Atkins? Thank you for your time.

I am slightly overweight this time but it isn't stopping us from ttc. Everything I have read about preparing your body for ttc just says eat healthy and exercise at least 30 minutes per day. It says not to restrict calories or exhaust yourself exercising because it could make it harder to ttc. I just plan on eating right and exercising. As long as I keep up with it during pregnancy then the weight should fall right off after.

i would get in shape if i was you, a healthier body will host a healthier pregnancy.

its kinda the pot calling the kettle black in my situation, though. i just have some auto-immune diseases, though and theres nothing i can do to get healthier to have a healthier pregnancy, kinda all it's gonna be for me.

Normal? No, not at all lol. Since I started at 13 they have never been regular, and it is not uncommon to go 6 mths without one. Dr.'s have told me its "normal" and there is nothing wrong, although, I am not so sure about that. I am only 23. But I have regulated out for the past 3 months, every month AF has visited, but I am late again by 4 days now. Pretty sure I am not preggers though.

So sorry for your losses, but congrats on the weight loss and your new bundle of joy   How did you lose the weight? Just exercise?

Yes I just started walking then gradually added in weights on ankles and wrists and slowly increased my distance when I no longer felt challenged it wasn't at all strenuous I felt great and the weight just kept coming off so I speed walk 4 kilometres

Wow, that is great. Too bad the snow in season is upon us soon lol 6 months of snow+3 mths of rain+3 months of 100 degree days= Northern Michigan. LMAO Maybe I should get a treadmill lol. Did you change your eating habits at all?

Not really just watched portion sizes don't worry about the snow I live in Canada old navy sells these great workout under layers that generate heat while you walk so I used those bundled up it keeps you from sweating so much and it makes you walk faster but I went all winter I didn't care how cold it was when I first start again after the baby is born I'm going to use a kettle bell if I can't get out

There is a reason why your periods aren't regular and it really isn't "normal" to go six months. I've gone almost a year before. My doctor said I should have at least 4 periods a year to help prevent against endometrial cancer.

I have a messed up reproductive system (well I have a lot of issues. A whacked out thyroid, auto-immune issue that involves severe food allergies, a metabolic disorder that hinders my ability to properly absorb calcium, and I hermorrhage a lot with my periods). The doctor recently suggested that I may be perimenopausal and I'm 32.

At one time my periods did normalize and I could count on the them like clockwork and I got pregnant by surprise! lol I weighed 220 and am 5'5"
