  I was spanked, and I had no respect for my parents. I was in and out of juvi, and did whatever I wanted when I wanted. This started when I was 8 (Not the spanking, the acting out). I was pretty much one of the worse kids you can imagine. I constantly got in fights at school, at one point I threw a chair at my teacher... I was only in 6th grade... I look back now, and hate the person I was, but I know there are reasons why I was that way. Spanking is what started me out on that path. It deff didnt work for any of my siblings either.

Exactly, SO was spanked, he was terrified of his father but still go into a ton of trouble and eventually robbed a bank when he was 18, spent 11 years in federal prison.

Oh man, yes. I remember when I was about 6 being out in public and a kid at least 3 years older than me was doing that. I just couldn't imagine acting that way in public, because I knew I would get spanked and not be allowed to go anywhere in public for a while since I didn't know how to act right.

I don't ever remember pitching a full temper tantrum in public, but my sisters did. The usual response was to pull them in real close and whisper in their ear "Straighten up and fly right, or you're going to get a spanking as soon as we get home. Understand?" That was usually enough to at least take them down a notch to a sullen pout.

Nope..You pick up your kid and walk out of the store. My son threw a fit ONCE when he was about 4. I picked him up, put him in the car. Swatted him on his butt when we got home. Told him why and sent him to sit on his bed. Never had a problem again.

See I stopped being scared of my Dad after a certain age, and I started hitting back. We came to blows serveral times. Ironicly, we are really close now lol. We got close when I moved out at 15. We just cant live together lol.

exactlly!!!!!!!!!! LOL...Just because some of believe in spanking doesnt mean we spank over everything and everyday. Whispering in the ear is awesome!!

Obviously they weren't doing something right. That doesn't mean spanking is wrong or ineffective. You were apparently just a hard-headed child that needed some kind of alternative punishment that would've gotten your attention and stuck with you. Your parents were apparently not creative enough to figure out what worked, and just stuck with spanking because it was all they knew to do. But it definitely works, isn't always counterproductive, and doesn't have to be associated with anything other than discipline and education. I was never afraid of my dad, regardless of the fact that I got spanked pretty regularly once I started school. I don't remember getting anything like a real spanking until I started kindergarten, though. Before that it was just a swat on the butt that I didn't really feel, just to get my attention, or I might get my hand popped if I insisted on touching something I had been told repeatedly not to.

They did everything with SO, spanking was ineffective.

If it doesnt work, wouldn't that render spanking ineffective?

I never said it was. I just said I dont agree with it lol. My parents were lazy, and crappy parents. I was just stating why I dont spank my child. I dont see the problem with other people spanking, as long as it isnt abuse. It works for some, but it makes it alot worse for others.

Oh random kid stuff. Once it was because I was sassy to a teacher. Once it was because I was telling lies. Another time I got in a scuffle with a little girl on the play ground because she pulled my hair. Another time it was a little boy that wouldn't quit flirting, and he got me into trouble by passing me a note, so I picked a fight with him. I can't remember what all. I rarely got spanked for the same thing twice... except maybe the fighting I suppose. But I never got into a fight for the same reason twice. I figured if the logic was different, maybe it would be justified lol.

Ineffective for that one person. Not for everyone. If they tried everything, then I guess he was just one of those people that never learns, or apparently they didn't try everything and just let him be bad.
